I'm still not sure they're really this bad, but this is a pretty massive step back from how much they improved last year, on defense especially. Team is a complete mess right now.

They may not be this bad but they aren't much better.
It is a collection of garbage surrounded by some young kids with meh talent.
You look at this team and then you look at the top 4 teams in each conference and you have maybe 1 guy (Bargnani) who could be the 3/4 best guy on the team and he is having an awful season.
Throw in the fact that Casey seems way off this year compared to last and it isn't that shocking that the team is struggling as bad as they are.

Game last night was perfection. Young guys playing and hustling and gaining experience. Rubbish is apparently injured for months / Yeah!!!! They can amnesty him in the summer. They can trade Calderon etc. meanwhile. Davis was very good, Val played well, Ross has some good moments.
Can live with that kind of effort and development quite easily.
I think that is the biggest difference between last year and this year. At the very least last year they gave full effort in many of their games. Most of their games this year have been mailed in. I'd be cool benching all the starters and going with the young kids who want to play hard and give it their all. They might not win, but at least their performance won't be embarassing.

Yeah cause all he does is chuck and is not even hitting open shots. The team works so hard to get open shots and Bustnani just jacks it all day and misses...so demoralizing.
Case of both the Raps playing fairly well tonight and the Mavs having a horrible shooting night (0-13 from 3-pt range to emphasize Dallas' shooting futility).
To rub even more salt into the Mavs' wounds, Shawn Marion got rejected 1-on-1 straight up on a layup by Jose Calderon (and Jose also lead the Raps in blocked shots tonight), of all people! Really embarrassing for a high-flyer like Marion to get stuffed on a layup straight up by a little point guard who's not that good of a leaper.
That was a very satisfying game to watch this afternoon. Calderon with the triple double, 18-10-14, plus a steal, a block, and zero turnovers. Raptors had 13 blocks in total today, and Anderson had a clutch game down the stretch.
Next up, on the road at Cleveland, and then home against Detroit and Orlando. A five-game win streak before Christmas isn't out of the question.

I caught a good chunk of the third quarter. Calderon was great in the open floor, at both ends. In the half court game, th team was moving and passing. Only derozan was taking poor quality shots, but even that was less than usual. It was GREAT to see.
Today's team and effort keeps Colangelo employed if we see it game adter game. Games like this also have to increase Jose's trade value as well.

Yeah, we'll see if Colangelo can do the one thing with Calderon that he's failed at throughout is Raptors career: actually trading a player when his value is high.

No kidding. How he plays is only important as far as trade value goes. Wins don't kill them this year as they can't even tank. But BC is probably too much of a fool to trade him at the correct time. If only that bozo Bargnani hadn't got hurt he could have gotten rid of both of them at the same time.
Fields is back tonight. We'll see how much his nerve problems accounted for his early season struggles. His style is a great fit for how the Raptors have been playing the last few games, but he needs to be able to hit the corner 3 to be effective.
