So i'm going to call into your restaurant and give you my pin for my debit card over the phone? hahahahaha
and it is still bull crap. No bank in Canada will ever recommend you giving out your PIN to ANYONE!

Go ahead, I haven't worked there in quite some time. And no, no one ever did do that over the phone, but it happened in person every now and then. That they could do it, though, meant that plausibly it could be done over the phone at a client's request. Your original argument was that it wasn't possible, not whether or not a bank would recommend it.
Like I said before, while it isn't common (for good reason), it is completely possible.

Ok i'll give them a shout. Where did you work? I'd love to know which bank they use or card processing company.

Unless it's a Visa or MasterCard debit card, you cannot pay over the phone. I know we don't offer it via our merchant POS provider and I've never heard of it before.
Still, if you are taking payments via the phone, you should be aware of the different products out there in today's world and realize consumers often don't understand the products they have because several financial institutions product dump until customers take them without finding out if there is even a need or not.

If I still knew people there or I was still there, I would. I have better things to do than waste other people's time.

Not sure what people were expecting in a thread called Stupid Calgarians....
I figured it would be a lighthearted thread for a Friday. Didn't realize the insane shooting in the US until my lunch break just now. and having a 5 year old and a 1 year old that is truly heartbreaking.
No point arguing about debit card systems now.

C'mon bertuzzied, can't you just admit you were wrong, like a big boy would? That's way more annoying than anything else I've read about in this thread.

What are you talking about? i'm not wrong. I asked 4 different people to name one place in Calgary that will accept a Bank debit card over the phone without a reply.
Besides think about it Jammies. when was the last time you ever paid for anything over the phone with a debit card? pretty easy eh?
that was a thread killer i guess.
And of course i will admit if i'm wrong. haha. Course i was right about Brent Sutter...

You were wrong that she was stupid to ask if she could pay by debit over the phone. Just because you can't do in Calgary means nothing. Maybe she's not from Canada. Maybe she's from here but has paid for something over the phone by debit in the States. Maybe she knows more about debit cards than you.
See, your assertion wasn't that she couldn't pay for something over the phone by debit here in Calgary. Your assertion was, instead, that she was stupid to think that you could do so. Since it's not a technological barrier but rather one of regulations that don't allow it, she WASN'T stupid and therefore YOU were wrong. Just say it: I was wrong. It's not hard. Nobody will care, except that we'll all feel better that you're not being purposely obtuse and stubborn.

Spot on, Jammies. As I said earlier, in America, a debit card works completely different. They could've been confused.
Bertuzzied, maybe you should the time devoted to mocking the customers who pay your bills to providing good customer service instead.

Just paid for dinner with my debit card, over the phone. It will be ready to pick up in 15 minutes. Mmmm, BBQ chicken salads!!!
I pay over the phone with my debit card all the time. I don't find it stupid at all. I find it convenient.
