If you have received the updated TD Access Card (which I believe you are calling a debit card) you can make online and telephone payments.

Is this the card you have?:

It really takes someone special to start a thread calling out people for being idiots and proceed to prove over and over again that they were looking in the mirror the whole time.

Yup. It doesn't say anything over the phone.

2. Shop securely

With the security of Chip encryption technology and Verified by Visa, you can confidently make payments directly from your TD bank accounts online and also around the world at retailers wherever Visa is accepted.

Speaking of 'Stupid Calgarians', what about that guy who starts needless, redundant threads on CalgaryPuck to act like he's smarter than anyone else, then irrelevantly tags it with 'anders', 'bronconnier', 'd.smith', and 'francis'.

And yes, it is completely possible that you pay for something with a debit card over the phone, it works the same way as 'Press 1 for...' does and feeds the same information into an EFTPOS system that a physical card does. It just isn't commonly used.

Based on how much Bertuzzied 'knows' and how smart he is based on his self-portrayal, I bet he's the most successful person that exists. I never knew Bill Gates was posting in our midst!

Talk about a 'Stupid Calgarian'!

Ok give me the Wildrose phone number and i'll make my $100 over the phone.

In the FAQ there are two questions about phone purchaes. Neither of the answers say it's not possilbe.

FAQ

If you are so eager to give away $100.00, give it to the food bank or other charity that needs it more than the Wildrose.
(not even sure how that got into this thread - your idea of spin is my guess.)

There is no 'hehe' because I speak actual English. Sorry.

Dude, it can also be done manually from the machine if the service is set up. I used to do it when I worked in a restaurant.

Ummm we are on the internet? Are you using some awesome dictation software? hehe

I call bull crap on that too. How can it go through without a pin number over the phone? What kind of bank would clear that? just punching in a debit card number.

Visa Debit or MasterCard debit cards in Canada only operate on the Visa and MasterCard networks outside of Canada because of Canadian legislation.

Inside of Canada they will be swiped by the merchant (or card numbered entered) and the merchant pays for an interact transaction, whereas outside of Canada the interchange discount rate is charged as MasterCard or Visa card.

To be fair, I believe if it's not a MasterCard Debit or Visa Debit card, you can't pay over the phone.

Don't assume everyone has one of those types of cards and don't presume that finding proof of a MasterCard debit or Visa debit card paying over the phone is the same as a regular debit card being a payment solution for over the phone transactions.

I'd also like to take this opportunity to plug the Credit Union's MasterCard debit card offering, the Global Payment Card, which has been around much longer then the chartered banks' offering.

I don't mind the starting of the thread, I thought it was funny.

And also I have never ever paid using debit or credit over the phone.. how is it safe to punch in a pin number?

I once accidently told the VISA rep my pin number because I thought they needed it to check my information and she said "I wish you hadn't told me that".

Also isn't there a credit card scam where the purchaser cancels your transaction after you leave and re-enters it adding 50 cents or whatever and pocketing it?

Credit cards are scary!

Credit cards are the safest way of payment on the internet. You always have the security of the credit card company of doing a chargeback.

No. You'd enter the debit card number manually then the PIN manually on a POS machine. Call bull crap all you want, I did it. It was my job and we did it on occasions where the debit card didn't swipe. It would follow that someone could give me their debit card number and PIN over the phone and I could enter it.

Also, when I lived in the USA, people called their VISA Debit Cards 'debit cards' all the time, even though they were used like credit cards. I wouldn't be surprised if people were doing the same up here now that we finally have similar VISA cards. They also should not be confused with credit cards even if offered and used like a VISA because in technical terms, they are actually debit cards because no line of credit is used.

There you have it, either this person meant their actual bank card, or they were referring to a VISA debit card but you were too busy cajoling to take their money

you are just making yourself sound like a fool now.

So i'm going to call into your restaurant and give you my pin for my debit card over the phone? hahahahaha

and it is still bull crap. No bank in Canada will ever recommend you giving out your PIN to ANYONE!
