I think since we are taking over the world anyways and 90% of products are made by us, Canada should make Chinese New Year a public holiday! Make it happen Anders!

Christmas is about shortbread and mince meat tarts.
Must not forget a family traditon that dates back over 30 years.

Grasshopper Pie:

Scratch Oreo Crust:
30 Oreo Cookies:

1/2 cube butter, softened:

Place whole cookies in food blender, pulse until crumbly, add butter and pulse until mixed. Pour into pie tin, press with measuring cup. Save a small porion of the crumbs to put top later. Ready to use!

Pie Filling:
In the microve heat up a jar of Kraft's marshmallow creme.

Beat up a 1/2 pint of whipping cream and fold in the marshmallow cream. Add 3 Tbsp Creme de Menthe - More if you want a stronger taste.

Pour into Oreo pie crust, put extra Oreo cookie crumbs on top of the pie mixture, place in freezer over night or until frozen. (takes a good 8-10 hours)

The finished product ready to eat

I still have 3 Gift Cards I haven't used from Last Christmas. One is a $50 gc for The Chop. The other is a $25 gc for Starbucks. The other is a $50 Gift Card for Futureshop. I'm not a coffee drinker, and I rarely shop at Futureshop. I will keep the Chop gc and put the other two on kijiji.

You'd better spend them, most of them are only good for a year and then gradually start losing value until they are void. That happened to me |

I love Christmas starting with Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving in the States is such a huge holiday, I love cooking and having family over for a big dinner, and watching football. We usually go home to Canada for Christmas and spend several days with my family and extended family. Good eats, lots of good drinks, and fantastic memories. My mom and dad always made a huge deal over Christmas and I am so appreciative of the memories I have, and the ones I am sure to have.
We focus the gift giving on the kids. Our present as adults is always time spent together, and my parents go all out with entertaining. However, it sure is fun to watch the kids tear open their gifts on Christmas morning (and then go back to bed for awhile to recover from Christmas Eve), only to do it all over again Christmas night! I hope it snows this year!

The best part of Christmas for me is Christmas Eve. After everyone's gone to sleep my old man starts a fire and we sit around drinking spiced eggnog and shooting the ####. Meanwhile, he puts the "Santa" presents out for my sister's kids.
When I come home my Mom tends to monopolize my time and make a fuss over me, so it's nice to have some time to sit and talk with my Dad.

Or Home Alone Gangster 'Johnny' : Who is it?
Pizza Boy : It's Little Nero's, sir. I have your pizza.
Gangster 'Johnny' : Leave it at the doorstep and get the hell outta here.
Pizza Boy : Okay, but what about the money?
Gangster 'Johnny' : What money?
Pizza Boy : Well, you'll have to pay for your pizza, sir.
Gangster 'Johnny' : How much do I owe ya?
Pizza Boy : That'll be $11.80, sir.
[Kevin drops the money from the dog door ]
Gangster 'Johnny' : Keep the change, ya filthy animal.
Pizza Boy : Cheapskate.
[starts to leave, but is stopped by Johnny's next line ]
Gangster 'Johnny' : Hey, I'm gonna give you to the count of ten, to get your ugly, yella, no-good keister off my property, before I pump your guts full of lead! 1, 2, 10!
[machine gun fire ]
Gangster 'Johnny' : [Pizza Boy runs from the house and speeds away in the delivery car ]
[Kevin opens the door and brings the pizza inside ]
Kevin McCallister : A lovely cheese pizza, just for me.

I think that people and corporations mostly have good intentions and tolerance in mind when trying to remove the religious aspects of the holiday season from schools, stores, and public areas. I also find that there are more religious people who complain about their right to celebrate Christmas being taken away in the past few years, than I've ever heard people complain about Christmas itself. As someone who is in the Happy Holidays camp, I have no problem responding to a Merry Christmas with a Merry Christmas of my own. I don't really understand those who have a problem with people saying Happy Holidays.
In the end I don't think anybody is saying religious people can't celebrate Christmas in there own way, just keep your religion at home because your right to freedom of religion isn't any more important than my right to freedom from religion.

Also I watch Die Hard almost every Christmas Eve.

They can't legally do that in Canada. GIft cards can not expire or decrease in value.

As a kid, it was great because I liked the candlelight church service, I got lots of gifts, and my whole family got together.
Now, religion makes me angry, gift giving is a pain in the ass, and my favorite family members are all dead.

 Merry Christmas!
