The one downside to a playoff is that it makes the week to week games less exciting. With the playoff system Bama losing to aTm isn't really a big deal.

Yeah they didn't look sexy in most of the games offensively but their defense is one of the best in the country against real competition unlike FSU.

You do realize my entire post was about Georgia, right?

Exactly, but had Kansas State or Oregon not lost, it would have been huge. You can say the same thing for Oregon right now.

Play-off system: they lose to stanford, no one cares since they'll be in the top 4 after the SEC championship game (provided they win out)

Non Play-off: they're done (baring the crazy situation where USC and FSU win)

In a four team play-off system the Oregon/K-State losses would still be huge as one or both could easily miss out. In an 8 team play-off the Georgia-Alabama game would be huge as the loser has a good shot of missing out.

People are free to argue against a play-off system but the "games wouldn't matter as much" reason is BS.

I think you are right but I have a lot more sympathy for a 3rd ranked undefeated team missing out than a 5th or 9th ranked team with a loss or two whining about them missing out.

I think the and 1 (plus 1?) is the best solution, but do think a play-off system is better than what we have now.

College football players don't enjoy those rights with respect to the NCAA. They don't have the right to earn a wage. They don't have the due process rights. Mark Emmert is an overpaid buffoon running an inept organization, but the unpaid players that he throws into his NCAA violation starchamber have no way to assert their rights against him. When your "wage" is the ability to live and study at a university for free (a right that can be taken away at a moment's notice) then you have no leverage against your superiors. I don't think the NCAA needs to give players the rights that citizens have with respect to their government; I'm just illustrating how due process is tied to the right to earn money.

The regular season would still matter. Not as much? Maybe, but so what? The champion at the end of the year would be, in my opinion, undisputed. There hasn't been a year in BCS history where more than 4 teams had legitimate claims to be in the title game, so keeping it at 4 teams is perfect, especially since we are likely heading to four superconferences of 16 teams anyways. Besides making the postseason matter more, when currently it is irrelevant except for the BCS title game, is more important than preserving the belief the regular season matters.

Well thankfully no all SEC championship. Lane seemed to be intentionally sabotaging any chance of a USC comeback at the end there, Notre Dame plays such good defense and their offense can really run the ball. Should be a good title game either way.

Or the fact that if you don't even play in your conference championship game you shouldn't get to play for the national title.

CU broke a 92 year streak by not winning a single home game this year and the coach is being told he's staying. CU just does not give a crap about football.

If we're going with hypotheticals then yes, if ND had lost today I'd imagine the title game would be a rematch of Alabama and Georgia.

I still can't get over a few years back when Auburn went undefeated but was the odd team out in BCS rankings. If you can go through an entire SEC schedule and come out undefeated, you should get a chance to play for a title.

Umm, no. Not even a chance that would happen. The loser of the sec championship would fall behind Florida and Oregon for sure, and probably others.
