Outside of the Oklahoma game ND hasn't impressed me. They scraped past MSU and UM, two teams with stellar defenses (guess what Bama has) and pretty garbage offenses. They needed big time official help to get past Stanford. They went to triple OT against Pitt. They've won their games, so they deserve to be where they are, but I don't see them beating any of the remaining contenders in a NC game. I'm not even sure they'll get by a Barkley-less USC team.
What's so impressive about Georgia?

The fact that they're even in the national title discussion is hilarious to me. They've played only two quality opponents in South Carolina and Florida (maybe 3 if you want to count Vandy) and gotten blown out of the water once and squeaked by in an ugly, ugly win. The rest of their schedule is complete garbage. Their out of conference schedule is a joke. They've had their share of close calls against mediocre competition (Tennessee, Kentucky).

The only reason Florida or Georgia are where they are in the BCS standings is because idiot humans ruined the computers and made them take margin of victory out of the formula. Both those teams drop significantly if the computers are allowed to work properly.

I have a hard time understanding how they think that's going to overcome the $51M exit fee.

As I understand it, that fee is "negotiable".

that's what it says in the ESPN article, but they just raised it from 20 to 50 million, not sure why they would vote to approve that and then let someone negotiate it back.

I like it as a Big Ten fan, partially because selfishly it's 2 places I can travel to pretty easily, but also because it's two schools that fit the Big Ten model. Large research schools with strong academics fit the non-sports mandate pretty well and athletically they both bring a decent amount to the table. It's also a no brainer move in terms of increasing market exposure heading into the next TV deal in 2017. Rutgers isn't going to get the NYC market, people in NYC either aren't college fans or are fans of their alma mater, but it still accesses a pretty huge market.

You must be real ecstatic now that they're 11-0

LOL didn't check first. But yep that was one crazy weekend. They actually won a game with ease which they sure haven't made a habit of. Then the other two in front of them both go down.

It really is looking like the Irish mystique is back. It is sure going their way.

Where did I say Georgia was overly impressive? I said they'd kick the snot out of ND, that's not the same thing.

So you must think Notre Dame is barely a top 15 team then? Because I don't see Georgia kicking the snot out of any 2-loss team, let alone the only undefeated team in the nation.

I'll say that. ND is the worst undefeated team I've seen in a long time. Realistically they should be a two loss team right now anyhow. Sure what Kelly has done there is impressive but I'd be shocked if they lost by less than 14 to either Bama or Georgia and since Barkley is out next week it looks like we'll get to find out.

Edit: that said if I was a ND fan I'd be Georgia superfan #1 right now. They have a slight chance against them maybe but against Bama? Shoot they wouldn't need to bother playing the game, just crown Bama now.

Why must I think that? I think ND is a number one team because they have beaten everyone on their schedule, that doesn't mean I think they matchup well to any other particular team out there.

You know what would be awesome? If you could read my posts and respond to what's in them as opposed to making a bunch of stuff up. That'd be swell.

Lol at Notre Dame being the worst undefeated team in recent history. If Georgia or Alabama were still undefeated they'd actually be the worst undefeated teams in recent history. Georgia has been given a cake walk (no LSU, Texas A&M or Alabama) and Alabama lost to one of the only two good teams on its schedule (and should have lost both). They both get free bye weeks in the middle of November (the FCS games) and neither of them have the balls to go to Norman to play Oklahoma like Notre Dame did. Notre Dame's defense would shut them both down (Oklahoma's offense is superior to both of them and they got shut down at home)

Notre Dame is a lot like Florida's 2006 National Championship team. They may not win games in the prettiest fashion, they just win games. Sure, they should have lost twice by now, but so should Alabama (LSU game) and Georgia (Florida game). Here's Georgia's "murderer's row" of games

Buffalo
Missouri
Florida Atlantic
Vanderbilt
Tennessee
South Carolina (lost 35-7!)
Florida
Ole Miss
Auburn
Georgia Southern
Georgia Tech

This is the number 3 team in the country? And Notre Dame is the embarassment? Really?

ND's opposition thus far this season is a combined 65-44.

Navy, Perdue, BYU, Pittsburgh, Boston College and Wake Forest among them.

Easily the worst #1 team....maybe ever, but for sure in a long long time.

They have maybe 3 quality wins with perhaps one of the best of the year over OK.

So lets not pretend they are anything more than they are....very fortunate to be in the position they are because a lot of things have fallen in their favor. A very good defensive team with a mediocre to less than average offense who have always gotten more voter sympathy than they deserve, not that its their fault for that.

Give me a break. You could say that about almost any team in any year who goes undefeated. They're not all going to be pretty and you're going to need to catch breaks here and there but the bottom line is that at the end of the game, if you have 1 more point than the other team, that's all that matters.

Also, wtf has Georgia done that is so impressive? They've played 2 ranked teams and got smashed by one of them. There 1 signature win is against Florida on a neutral field. That's why I want ND to play Bama. To be the best you have to beat the best and what better way to stop the SEC streak then to beat the defending champs.

But if somehow Notre Dame miraculously beats the big bad Alabama Crimson Tide, the haters will still find a way to make it less about Notre Dame and more about how Alabama wasn't at their best, it's their rebuilding year so the Irish caught them at the right time bla bla bla.

It's fine though cause the Irish are playing with house money anyway. At the beginning of the year everyone said with their schedule, they'd be lucky to win 8 games. Well were 11-0 and 1 win away from an undefeated regular season. When you got the #1 scoring defense in the country, I like my Irish's chances against anyone.

But here's a fun fact that even the haters can respect and acknowledge.

Notre Dame is the first school in BCS history to be ranked #1 in the BCS standings and #1 in graduation success rate.

Pretty awesome that you can play elite football and still receive your diploma at one of the most prestigious schools in the country.

GO IRISH!

Sorry bud but Florida has played 3 top ten teams this year and another this week on the road. They also went on the road and beat TAMU at Kyle field

According to the NCAA Florida has the toughest schedule in the country (again) and people bitch and moan about it.

Yeah they didn't look sexy in most of the games offensively but their defense is one of the best in the country against real competition unlike FSU.

Dont forget that it took 6 Florida turnovers (3 of them being inside UGA's 5 yard line) for them to win that game.

Ugh...all these arguments and debates and stats and spreadsheets of who deserves the shot to play for the NC is exactly the reason why I've never been able to like NCAA at the same level as the NFL. They need a playoff system in the worst way, 2014 can't get here soon enough. It'll pretty much be on par with NFL for me once it does (and expands to 8 teams at some point down the road, hopefully), as I love the games/atmosphere/tradition. It'll just put so many of these theoretical, never-ending arguments to bed.

Pretty excited for this weekend, by no means do I claim to be diehard, but I've been following ND since '05 in the Weis/Quinn/Walker/Samardzija days, haven't missed a game the past couple seasons. It's been a fun and shocking ride. Agreed Iceman, I want Bama too, just so if they do somehow pull off the W, the ND detractors can't really argue (in theory anyway).

That OU game was so much fun, so much disrespect & smacktalk from their fans on the Saints boards beforehand, thought they were gonna win by 3 TD's. But instead they lose by 17 in Norman. Oops!

Right, because there wouldn't be any arguments at all over determining who's number 4 vs 5 or 8 vs 9. That element will always be there, playoff or no playoff.

True, but I'd rather argue about who should be the final seed qualifying, rather then over which undefeated team should play for the title & which is automatically relegated to lesser Bowl status.

I still can't get over a few years back when Auburn went undefeated but was the odd team out in BCS rankings. If you can go through an entire SEC schedule and come out undefeated, you should get a chance to play for a title.
