There's a new system already GWE? Spill the beans or I'll make empty threats over the internet.

I don't know many of the details, it's a Motorola box about the same size as a portal, uses a new osg. No PVR in it's current incarnation. One thing that I like is HD channel override. If it's in HD it's the only version of that channel on the guide.

The new box has been released now, it's not top secret anymore.
Shaw has developed it's own interface. The PVR with the new interface is now testing, but HD Boxes are for sale at Visions and through Shaw already.
One of the best new features is HD override meaning for anyone who hasn't already converted to HD, Global will be in HD on channel 7 instead of 211. No new channels to learn.
Hahaha, GWE just said that. I also like the left arrow function for the ON Demand shows on any particular channel, the full compliment of VOD and the 1080P VOD available.

So question...one of my PVR's blew up, its older so off warranty so that leaves me with 1 PVR and 2 older receivers that are not HD. I want to update and have a total of three TV's in the house on HD with expansion to a 4th once I finish my basement. Am I better off going to Gateway or just getting a couple of HD boxes? The shaw guy on the phone said that I could trade my current PVR in for one of the gateway satellite boxes...Seems a bit expensive still even with that deal so Im wondering if its worth it?

It probably depends on what you want to do with it. If you want to be able to watch shows you recorded on any TV then Gateway would be a good choice.
Another option would be if you mostly only use 2 of the 3 TV's you could get a Gateway and 2 portals, put those on your main TV's and then use HD receivers on TV 3 (and 4 when you have it). I don't believe the portals are very expensive in relation to non-PVR HD boxes, so that option might be a similar cost to going all Gateway.
I really like the Gateway, I can record more shows since the Gateway has more tuners than a regular HD box and I can watch my recorded show on any TV.
If the cost is scary you could always do their easy pay.
It's not much more expensive than getting HD on every TV depending on the credit they give you for your HD PVR.
Gateway and portal $498, portal you buy $178, plus your free portal from your trade in and you would be set for your 3 TV's for $676. Buy 2 more HD boxes and keep your PVR you will be looking at $356. If that $320 is worth it to you to have your recordings viewable on every TV and having more tuners available to you then go for it.

That sounds horrible, I want all my HD channels together in one spot.

This sounds terrible. My wife records a bunch of daily daytime crap and if it's in HD it will take up too much space on the hard drive, hopefully there is an override for the override.

I like the fact that all the HD channels are close to each other in the 200's I am able to avoid the 199 channels of crap. It would be good if channel 7 worked in HD as well as the 211. So that when my wife goes to non HD channel it still shows HD if available but I don't have to search through all the 199 channels of crap for HD content

Not sure if best to bump an old thread, or start a new one, so am recycling this one.
I am having continuing problems with Gateway - having to unplug the terminals almost every two to three days to get channels.
Anyone else with similar experience? What is coming next to replaced the hardware that Shaw is using now?

I had this problem for a while. Shaw came out and replaced the Gateway for me. Working fine ever since.
