Probably because at the time the Barclays Center was being designed (and then redesigned) Wang was pushing for his own building, along with a massive development complex (lookup the Lighthouse project) in Nassau County. The move to Brooklyn only came into the picture when hope of any type of development in Nassau was wiped off the map, and that didn't happen until relatively recently.

I thought that it{the Lighthouse project,(Look it up??, maybe I should insist on a link or it never happened?)} had been dead for a few years while the Barclay Center only started construction 2 years ago.

I thought the Lighthouse project was just voted down in a referendum last summer? Or was that something else?

Correct.
However, Nassau County residents voted against building a new arena for the Islanders on August 1, 2011

You're right, it never happened. You really are a piece of work. I think it's time to go back to playing with your toys.

I'm just returning the stupid rules that you use. I guess you don't like it when the shoe is on the other foot eh? At least I was making a joke of it, but there you go being butt hurt again.

Yep, real "butt hurt". Just in tatters over here. Watching you continually make an ass of yourself just tears me up.

Anger? I'm more amused that you don't seem capable of operating like anything but a 12 year old.
Now how about this thread gets back to being about the Islanders relocation instead of your petty little outbursts? Is that okay with you?

I'm glad the Isles are staying in the NY area. It would have been a shame for a team with such a storied history to be moved to a new market and take that history with them.

So psyched that they are headed to Brooklyn. If only I still lived in NYC, I would have season tickets in a second. I think they will have no problem drawing people to games there considering mass transit to the NVMC is a pain in the ass.
it sucks for those who live near the coliseum, but after so many stops/starts to the Lighthouse the writing was on the wall, and LI can thank their local governments for taking the Isles for granted.

NM - I didn't see the actual pics of the arena with ice. I was only looking at the seating chart. Might actually be kind of cool.

My guess is that after a while a regular visitor wouldn't even pay attention to it. The way things look changes all the time and people always get used to it.

Honestly for a lot of those people it will be about the same amount of effort to get to a game. People out east in Suffolk will have a bit of an issue, but if you're in Nassau county (particularly on the south shore) the trip to Barclays via LIRR will be very easy, and there will probably be plenty of parking available at the stations as the day parkers will be clearing out by that time.

This was the reasoning why I think Wang should have seen the "writing was on the wall" and got in on the Barclay Center earlier, so it could have been set up for hockey.

Meanwhile your neighbors as taxpayers were never going to save the Islanders in this or any other economy, so no point in blaming them. The referendum was simply a clever ploy by all the key decision makers to shift the blame and responsibility on someone else. "The voters have spoken!"

Well he gave up a big chunk to a Russian investor, so I imagine Wang's money would have been favourably received.

Yeah, Prokhorov, who also brought along the anchor tenant that made the whole thing feasible. At the time that happened Nassau was still very much in play. By the time things turned sour in Nassau there was little reason to bring in another partner for Barclays. Heck, by the time Nassau was out of the question Barclays was half finished.
