I believe Staples is the busiest arena for sports, where MSG is the busiest arena for all events.

IMO, great move to keep a once legendary franchise viable (or at least more potentially so than it is now).
Hopefully get the gate up to a more respectable level, become perhaps a team with a more blue-ollar identity and ideally obtain a decent TV following.
I think an even better thing would be if they could somehow get out of Nassau a year or two early. Start reaping the benefits straight away.

^ That does look cool. I wonder how much Rochester would charge them to license that name and coat of arms? Also wonder if Buffalo would let them license it?

The NY Islanders are moving to Brooklyn in 2015. That's when you know it's over for the hipsters: when REAL mullets come to town.

Will you people saying they should change their name be proposing that the Flames change their name when they leave the Saddledome? it makes about as much sense, as both teams will still be drawing from their previous fan base.

Imagine how much security they would need in those sections when the Rangers play there.
Interesting move, but I have no doubt that they will be able to keep consistent demand for tickets, and better per game revenue numbers out of that building. But what could be awesome is the rivalry that gets going.

Denis Potvin was on Hockey Central and he seems to think they may change the colours. He pointed out that they said they would keep the name and logo but never made mention of the colours which in his words "are very Uniondale and Nassau County".

Blue Orange and White are the colors of the NYC official flag! Hahaha not to mention the Mets, and Knicks rock those colors as well.

Interestingly, the Mets rock the blue and orange because they chose the primary colours of the Dodgers (blue) and Giants (orange) which of course were the two New York based NL teams which left the city before the Mets arrived.
I could see the Islanders going to black and white like the Nets and maybe a third jersey that's retro blue and orange.

A collection of mockups from Sportslogos.net:
I don't think they should change much of anything, outside of ditching the roller hockey-esque abominations of third jersey.
That said, with Wang at the helm, and going to the hipster urban area of Brooklyn, in the NYC market, I can't imagine that they'll not have some sort of different look/branding when they move to capitalize on the merchandising aspect.
Not sure if that will be black and white like the new Nets, but probably it won't be orange and blue as the primary unis.
On another note which twists things up, on the same day the Isles announce they will move to Brooklyn, the Brooklyn Nets play the Knicks at Nassau wearing their old red white and blue unis, not the new black and white set.

Interesting how the Rangers and Devils are not pulling out all the stops to prevent this move into their market like the Leafs in southern Ontario. 3 team within 30 km in New York now...sometimes I never understand the NHL
|
The Islanders are already in their market. They paid their indemnity to the Rangers in 1972 when they joined the NHL.

Well the Mets are considered a bit of a Long Island team, and with the Knicks wearing the same colors I could see an attempt to differentiate.
One interesting thing I read yesterday about the symbol is that it currently doesn't include Brooklyn and Queens on the map portion, it cuts off near the Nassau county border. You'd have to think they'll tweak it a bit to make sure the area they actually play in is on there when they move.

Anyone else think that seating layout looks ridiculous?
I could be wrong, but I just can't picture sittiing in the center of an arena but being on the blue line. I suppose people smarter than me think it'll look good though.
NM - I didn't see the actual pics of the arena with ice. I was only looking at the seating chart. Might actually be kind of cool.

No one thinks its optimal for hockey. The arena was built to maximize viewing for a basketball court.

Which makes me wonder why the Wang wasn't in on this new arena from the start so it would accommodate hockey. Being billionaires you'd think these owners would have more forethought.
