Exactly. In the first pic, he looks like he's forcing a smile. In the other two, he looks genuinally happy with who he is and what he's doing.

All I said is I miss my friend, what he's become now is something much akin to becoming a cult member.

Talking with him is near impossible, even when you try your hardest to just accept him as he is and talk, its just a constant barrage of nonsensical spiruality.

I could care less if he dresses weird, grows a long skruffy beard, what I feel saddened about is the loss of his brain, the guy he used to be.

Apparently if you smile enough in a photo all the other concerns just wash away right guys?

I would be too. All those years of foolishly paying enough tax to cover the public services you need, then, boom. Free stuff. Everything is free to a guy like that.

"Look at this free sidewalk someone built me! Look at this free hospital someone built me! Look at this free park! Its beautiful! Maybe I will put a tent in it and call it my very own!"

The world must be an amazing place when you don't work toward any of it.

I've been there Thor, I know exactly what you're talking about. It's happened to a number of friends of mine from where I grew up.

Come on now... that obviously isn't what I was suggesting.

I obviously know zero percent of your friends story, I was more just expanding on flameswin's thoughts on how the 9-5 m-f type office gig isn't for everyone.

As long as he is is not hurting anyone, or becoming a menace to society, who cares? If everyone on the planet had the same goals and beliefs, the world would be a very boring place.

Don't be such a selfish twit. If he's happy, then be happy for him.

If it's a charade and he's miserable, then help him.

Crying about how it affects "you" or his "friends" doesn't mean ####, because his life isn't about you. It's about him.

Wow, selfish twat? Firstly his family and friends have reached out to him countless times. Many of them helping by giving him a place to stay, food, whatever else he needs.

He's not miserable, its not a charade. He can only help himself at this point if he chooses it, probably something that will just happen many years from now.

I wonder if you say the same for a family that has lost someone to a cult, as long as he's happy right?

Not that I'm here to pander sympathy from internet nobodies, but I did lose (and haven't seen in 7 years) my mother to a New-Age group of crystal healing weirdos.

The difference being, I don't prattle on for pages on the internet complaining about how negatively it's affected my life. I sucked it up and moved on.

Thanks for the belittling comments.

Firstly I posted those images to show people just what can happen to people too into new age crap, and 2nd that I missed the guy he used to be.

Praddling on for pages?

Get a grip man, its a off topic discussion, this guy was a KEY speaker and activist in that occupy Calgary which many here in this discussion had seen videos of and or even had seen in person.

I haven't seen enough internet tough guys lately, nice to see they still exist.

I don't think that phrase means what you think it means.

Dude, you're being pretty harsh here. Thor isn't wanting your sympathy, he's just posting something that happened to be related to the Occupy movement. I, for one, was interested in reading about his friend. It's human to be emotional, if you think Thor is being just that. It's his friend, for chrissakes.

It's more that he thinks his loss, pain and anguish is more important than his friends path in life.

If the first few posts were left as that, a story, then it would have been fine, but he jumped on 3 different posters for stating that his friend looks happy and contented, and then proceeded to lay down some sympathy cards about how hard it is to be his friend/family member now that he's changed [for the worse].

It's all terribly selfish and myopic.

This isn't just a different path - it's nuts. His friend likely has mental issues that are probably not being dealt with in a way that's best for the friend and is certainly not best for those that care about him.

Do you book sessions at your armchair psychology clinic or do you accept walk-ins?

WTF are you talking about? The only window we have into this is what Thor has said and the pictures of a nutjob. Based on what we know, it's not a giant leap to suggest this guy might have mental issues.
