I used Passbook today to pick up my movie ticket. I'll never buy a ticket at the theatre again. It was one of the cooler things I've seen my phone do, ever.

It's a fairly well documented, and I don't think there is anything proprietary to Passbook passes - I haven't looked into it too closely, but i'm fairly certain its like a graphic and some xml data packaged up in a zip file.

So the possibility of passes proliferating across devices is certainly there.

Looking at this, I don't see anything (such as a requirement for Apple to sign passes) that would prevent cross-platform compatibility:

I tried it out the other day. Did you not use your phone to purchase movies previously? How is it better? (I'm waiting for Starbucks to upgrade with Passbook support. They've got it in the US, but not here yet)

I still hate the awkward hand-over to a person "here's my phone, please scan it" - some theatres have machines that do it, but not all of them.

Yeah, I like doing it at Chinook since they have the machine, super quick and no lines.

Yeah, if a person could do this before how did the passport feature change anything?

The app had it before, what will happen with Passbook though is location aware geofencing. So when I get to the cinemas a push notification with my tickets will pop up. I don't know if cineplex has added this yet, but is one of the features of Passbook.

Passbook isn't revolutionary, but it's the small things that save a little of time that are nice. No need to open the app, make a few taps here and there, when it could pop up automatically. (Like a Starbucks card when you visit Starbucks)

I was emailed an excel spreadsheet that I need to fill out and email back. I only have numbers on my Mac. Is there a way to fill out the form but keep it in excel format?

Numbers will do the trick. Just choose "Export" when you are done editing it, rather than save, since Save will prompt you to save it in Numbers file format.

The problem with Cineplex is you still have to open their app to scan your Scene Card. It would be nice if you could keep things like Scene, Air Miles, and your library card in your Passbook.

Oh wow, they fixed that quick.

I found it hard to find the function. For anybody wondering, it's the top right button when you open the SCENE tab (the one that displays your barcode).

The popup is the biggest convenience of passbook imo. I have so many gift cards that go unused because I forget about them. To walk into a starbucks and get a reminder that you have a $5 card is incredibly useful.

For those who want to have Starbucks in their passbook there is a workaround. Not the most elegant solution, but here you go (you'll need an american itunes account): http://www.iphoneincanada.ca/how-to/...da-workaround/

Not sure if this is the thread to put it in, but does anyone have any recommendations for ram for a mid-2010 MBP?

Currently running 4GB of 1067 MHz DDR3 (stock). Looking to upgrade.

TIA

I assume you mean mid-2010?

NCIX has pretty good prices on RAM. For that computer the Corsair is probably the better bang for you buck at $38 for 8GB:

Kingston is another option but it's $10 more:

I'm not sure if this thread is the right spot for this but I'll throw it in anyway. Since I updated my iphone 4 to ios 6 i've noticed an issue with the music player. I listen to it pretty all day at work. There are times, of course, when I have to get up and be away from my desk, on the phone etc when i've got the player paused. Often enough that it's become annoying I'll come back to my phone and fire it back up and be back quite a ways in the list of songs I've already listened to. I thought it was related to pausing using my headphones but doesn't seem to be the issue, as i've paused from the lock screen and it still happens.

It's not the end of the world but it is annoying. Oh, I generally just have it on shuffle, no playlist. Anyone else run across this issue?

Quick question: Can you use the Thunderbolt port as HDMI input on a 2011 Macbook Air? I know that you can output HDMI to a TV, for example, but I want to connect a video source to my computer without anything more than a cable and adapter (which I already own). Possible or not?

Can't use the Macbook Air display for devices, only output from MBA to HDMI

Wondering when they'll ever announce/bring out those 13" Retina MacBooks. I could use a new laptop and the 15" ones are too much..

EDIT: Oh nevermind, 'it's alongside the iPad Mini'
