It was cutting out on app downloads, that is how I first noticed it. It makes mail and messaging apps pretty much useless does it not?

On the iPhone and iPads the 3G is always on, mail and messages are always coming in.

I guess that makes sense but it would be nice to have the option to kill data and strictly use wifi. I know emails and such don't use a lot of data but still seems like a silly feature to have the wifi disconnect, I would think it uses less battery than having 3/4G LTE always on.

I believe it switches to cellular data because that is the only way to receive text messages, not imessage though because that uses pure data.

Does anyone use Reminders often? (This seems so simple but I haven't been able to find the answer after several google searches.) Is there a way to enable the shorthand automatic notifications on iOS as it works on in OSX?
For example, in OSX I type:
"Remind me to do something at 8am"
and it automatically schedules a reminder called:
"Remind me to do something"
with a notification set for 8am.
On iOS, that same text results in a reminder called
"Remind me to do something at 8am"
without any notification. I need to manually add the notification through their clunky interface.
Small thing - but I do this about 20 times a day.

I have done this using Siri a couple times (actually one of the few things I have used Siri for)

I had no idea reminder os OSX did that. It drove me nuts that you had to click through to add a time. Odd that iOS doesn't behave the same and that Siri is basically required to accomplish it.

Yes - Siri does this and I use it occasionally but most of the times I'm setting reminders during a meeting when an action item for me comes up, and I have to do it silently.
It's bizarre that they built in voice-to-text-then-parsing for Siri/reminders on iOS, text parsing on OSX, but no text parsing on iOS.

Just a heads up to anyone using an Apple TV on an ethernet connection : the update to 5.1 (the latest version) broke quite a few things. Podcasts, Youtube, some other functions, and even the ability of activate the Apple TV after a factory reset.
Use it on wifi and everything works as it should. I prefer to use ethernet but wifi works OK for me as well, so it isn't the end of the world, but it was frustrating trying to figure out the problem.
There's a thread about it in the Apple Support Communities about it, with an appearance from an Apple staffer, so hopefully this will get fixed soon. I just want to prevent anyone from frustrating themselves by updating their device only to have it start acting up over ethernet.

Here's another oddity - you can create location based reminders via Siri OR the keyboard on an iPhone, but not on an iPad 3, even though both support geofencing perfectly. The location based reminders don't even synchronize properly between the two - the location is lost when it sync to the iPad.

I didn't know you could do that on OS X - that's cool! Where do you type it in, spotlight?

Passbook question.
If passbook it to keep all your tickets etc.. in one place, why does it send me to the app store to download individual apps? Am I missing something?

The app for example Like Starbucks (not available in Canada yet) you enter your details into the app, and it puts the card into passbook.
For the Delta app you manage your booking on the app, when its time to get a boarding card it goes into passbook.
Cineplex app puts your scene details into Passbook, and if you buy tix on the app I think it puts them into Passbook as well

It sounds like you need both Passbook and the individual App for it to work. I was hoping you could just enter whatever you wanted in passbook and not need all the individual apps. If you can already access your card in the apps, why do you need passbook?

You don't technically need apps to generate passes - companies will be able to do things like email you passes, or have them available as web links that you download into passbook from the browser. You could, as an example, have a URL on a billboard that downloads a passbook coupon, or maybe on a TV ad.
Passbook also does geofencing, so that your Starbucks barcode, for example, appears onscreen when you are in your preferred Starbucks locations.

This could be absolutely huge, if Android comes out with something roughly equivalent.
