What category? Why choose insurance fraud as being equivalent?
Is their stealing not equivalent to the physical theft of items from Superstore and insurance fraud?

Are you asking if there stealing is equivalent or is there stealing not equivalent? Your question is poorly worded, IMO.

According to the Non-Profit U.S. National Association for Shoplifting Prevention:
• One in 11 people is a shoplifter.
• There is no profile of a typical shoplifter. Men and women shoplift about equally as often.
• Many shoplifters buy and steal merchandise in the same visit.
• Approximately 25 percent of shoplifters are kids, 75 percent are adults.
• Shoplifters say they are caught an average of only once in every 48 times they steal. They are turned over to the police 50 percent of the time.
• Habitual shoplifters steal an average of 1.6 times per week.
According to the Retail Council of Canada's (a not-for-profit association representing more than 40,000 retailers) Canadian Retail Survey 2007:
• Retail crime costs Canadian retailers $3.6 billion per year.
• According to Ipsos Reid, small independent retailers lose $1000 a month.
• 28% of retailers reported overall losses of more than $500,000 to Organized Retail Crime (ORC).
• 56% of retailers report that they apprehended individuals linked to ORC.
• 87.5% of smaller retailers report being victims of crime.
• Employee theft and shop theft were reported in 95% of the retailers.
• The Canadian Security Intelligence Service says 950 organized crime groups operated in 2007.
• Canada's privacy laws place severe demands on retailers and limit what information they can share about criminals with other retailers.
• Canadians don't have the same concern about organized retail crime as Americans therefore Canada is a good place to turn a quick, tidy and dirty profit.
International facts and statistics from Global Theft Barometer-Center for Retail Research 2008 Report:
Most Shoplifted Items
1) Razor blades (Gillette)
2) Alcohol (branded spirits)
3) Toiletries, cosmetics and fine fragrances
4) Clothing and lingerie
5) Batteries (Duracell)
6) DVDs, CDs (rap and dance) and computer games
7) Pills, vitamins, contraceptives and pregnancy testers.
8) Electric toothbrushes, Braun gas cylinders
9) Instant coffee
10) Steak and packs of meat
• Customers steal $14 billion worth of merchandise from North American stores every year.
• In 2008, Canada had the highest per capita rate of refund fraud in the world.
• Convenience stores have the highest rate of employee theft, furniture stores the lowest.

ok I'll try and simplify it for you. But does it matter? Either answer would suffice.
What categories do you speak of? What makes you think that insurance fraud and physical theft from superstore are in the same category? Why not include many other forms of theft like illegal downloading, purchasing couterfeit jerseys and cheating on your taxes. These are all a form of theft, no?

When it comes to movies, I have no problem paying money to see them at the theater if they interest me. I also buy all my music off of iTunes. Most of the music and movies being released these days is garbage anyway, so even if I could get it for free, it doesn't interest me.

Yes, they are all forms of theft.
Why don't you spit out what ever it is you want to say.
The people that have the moral bankruptcy to believe it is OK, to steal from 'big stores" are those that also believe it is OK to steal from insurers, oil companies, record companies, the gov't.....

Copyright infringement isn't stealing. I"m not saying it's moral, but it isn't the same thing as theft anymore than speeding is the same as illegal parking.
Aren't we paying extra for media like blank CDs and that because it IS legal to download copyrighted works in Canada, anyway? I thought the bill that would change that got lost the last time we had an election, and thus the current law is that you can download, just not upload legally.

They are? I know lots of people that wouldn't think twice about purchasing a fake jersey or to DL some movies but would never and have never stolen anything from a store.
I'm curious as to what led you to this conclusion.

If someone lends you a CD to burn, is that stealing? In Canada, downloading off the internet isn't illegal...yet.

You friends buy illegal jersey's and download illegally from the internet.
Seems pretty clear to me.
BTW, maybe provide me with you level's of acceptable theft.

I can honestly say that according to your hilarious standards, pretty much everyone I've ever known is a scumbag. Who doesn't know someone who hasn't downloaded/streamed at least 1 song/movie/tv show/sporting event etc?
And why do you keep making these asinine assumptions? Who said anything about an acceptable level of theft? I'm responding to you saying that anyone who does x means that they believe that y is also ok. What world do you live in where someone who has stolen a song automatically believes that insurance fraud is ok?
You're the one that made the ridiculous claim, you back it up.

They are the same in my opinion.
Direct theft that affects a corporations bottom line.
You don't agree.
I don't care.
