You're not cheating someone. You're taking advantage of a huge corporation that has decided that the benefits gained by replacing cashiers with machines outweigh the drawbacks of people mislabeling bulk products.

Not directly cheating someone. If we all stole using this method, Superstore's bottom line may take a hit and then they are forced to reduce their workforce and raise prices.
Then again you could counter by saying that it is their fault for making an unwise business decision and that they have a certain responsibility to maintain good business practices and that they obviously have already thought about a potential rise in theft and they've decided that the potential savings from having less cashiers being paid offsets the loss from theft.

The best way for stores like this to cut down on theft associated with self-checkouts is......drumroll please......

No. What they would do is find a way to stop people from doing this. If they could raise their prices and make more money they'd be doing it already. Especially with more and more WalMart superstores being built in Canada, they can't raise their prices more.

Well then she's ripping off the rest of us taxpayers because we could really use the extra money from the GST she'd pay.

She'd probably pay for the GST on whatever else she spends the money she saved on.

Maybe i'm going to hell, but I do this type of #### all the time. I love self checkout for this exact reason. Sure, its technically theft... They had to know this would happen with self checkouts so the big chains are ok with it. I think its rather stupid to rely on the honour system to sell your product. I am ok with taking advantage of someone else stupidity.
You can do it with bread rolls. Bell peppers is a popular one for me. It makes no sense to me why the green ones are cheaper. I like the rainbow effect in my basket, so I pay only the green price. I don't buy organic vegetables and fruit but if I did, I wouldn't be paying extra for it.
One trick I used to do was put cat food on the bottom rack of a shopping cart. Sometimes the clerk scanned it, sometimes they didn't. I just purchased a full cart of ####, my bad I forgot the bag of cat food. /shrug.

I don't know that it's very wise to admit to crimes on a public message board, especially one with known police officers as members.

I'd be tempted to do that too but my wife won't let me. She won't even let me steal $0.05 bags at Superstore!

Just show them how to scan a big pack of donuts as the cheapest buns available. They'll be on your side in no time!

Once I forgot to scan a thing of TP at the self checkout. I went back in the store, TP in hand to pay for it. I decided blowing my first time shoplifting on a pack of TP at the age of 29 would be pretty sad. I'm saving up for something bigger.

FYI, yellow/red peppers are green peppers that are further ripened. The red peppers are the most expensive as they ripen the longest.
To summarize, you justify your stealing by being ignorant of the facts.

hahhaa. i was just being overdramatic about the germs. I won't buy food from bulk bins ever! Not at Superstore, not at Safeway, not at Sobeys. Those are reserved for the desolate and lower rungs of society! hehehehe
I'm a huge superstore fan though! goooo loblaws!

That would be quite the hassle for such a miniscule theft charge. I don't think a post on an internet message board counts as a confession of guilt.

Cops can't do anything on here. Still unsolved cases on extension cords and crow bars.
I sure hope the real cops bust this m&m stealing theif's ass.

Never knew that, so thanks for the info.
I justify my stealing because of a a different reason then you listed. I think its stupid for a business to rely on the honour system. I'm taking advantage of a situation. It happens all the time the other way so why can't the customers take advantage of a situation every once in awhile. Its not like I seek out only stores with self check outs, or that i HAVE to use self check out every time I go shopping. I will take advantage of a weak system. Judge me all you want, its your right. I'm ok with what I do, and I'll continuing doing it. I sleep fine at night and this will never bother me.

I was under the impression that if items with bar codes weren't properly scanned at the till, a siren would go off at the door as you walk out. Wouldn't the cat food in the cart trip the siren as you pass through the doors to leave?
