The App market is huge, It doesnt take long to have spent $50 in apps / music. So that can quite easily be the profit source on razor thin margins for the product itself.

They also have a lot of movies for sale, and keep adding more. The whole direction of the 'Play' store seems to be to add more content/drive sales.

Sales of Samsung's flagship Galaxy S III smartphone have not been hurt by the release of Apple's iPhone 5 or Cupertino's big patent win, according to new data from mobile app analytics and marketing firm Localytics. In fact, Galaxy S III sales were actually helped by the news.
Sales of the uber popular Android device have seen an average weekly growth of 9 percent each week since Aug. 1, Localytics said. But interestingly, the Samsung Galaxy S III logged larger spikes in adoption after two major news events — the Apple patent trial verdict and the iPhone 5 launch.

Apple tightens ability of third-party manufacturers to produce products
Quote:
Apple’s (AAPL) new Lightning cable isn’t easily cloned because it contains a special microchip that’s difficult to reverse-engineer. And according to iLounge, Apple has now changed its policies to only allow Apple-approved facilities to manufacture third-party Lightning connector accessories. iLounge’s source says Apple is planning a special seminar to take place in China this fall that interested parties must attend before they can begin producing and releasing Lightning accessories starting in November under the careful watch of Apple.
Apple’s decision to ditch the 30-pin connector used in all previous iOS devices has been controversial since its debut in the iPhone 5. Apple said it needed to change the design in order to get the iPhone 5 to a 7.6mm thickness. Customers haven’t been happy with the switch for reasons including incompatibility with old docks and accessories, the unavailability of third-party Lightning cables that cost less than the official $19 cable Apple sells, and the delayed Lightning to 30-pin adapter.
Tech pundits have also panned the new connector over the fact that it still transfers data at USB 2.0 speeds and not USB 3.0. Lightning does have a upside, though: it’s reversible, meaning it can be plugged in any way.

Likely Apple trying to force up the costs of the third-party makers in an effort to get more people to just buy the official Apple adapter. I mean at $9.99 versus $19.99 its an easy choice, at $16.99 versus $19.99 most people will choose the Apple one.

I cannot believe there are actually Apple ads that now showcase the ability to do Panoramic photos.
Wow.

Two and a half months to get a refund for a cancelled Nexus 7 order. Great customer service there Google.
Oh, and my three year old iPhone 3Gs got the latest OS update but I'm still waiting for Jelly Bean on my One X.
Honestly, I wouldn't even mention these things but the fandroids in this thread are getting to me. There have been great pano apps available for the iPhone for years, MMF. So yeah, they didn't rush to add it to the OS. Give it a rest.

I think he's questioning why they're touting it if it's been possible for years.

Because for tens of millions of users it's a cool new (to them) feature of the OS.

That actually adds to MMF's point.

Thank you for proving my point beautifully. Apple is doing an entire tv campaign over a simple feature Android has had for over two years.
