Can anyone blame him? It took him this long to finally get people to commit financially (if indeed he actually has) only for that rug to be pulled out from under him with Glendale wanting to change the deal.

With Doan signed, one pressure point is removed. The next one is not until November when a new council gets elected. Jamison will want to get a deal done before then.

He pretty much has to. If that deadline passes without a ratified lease, the new council is unlikely to support it. At that point, the only question left is which market gets a franchise in 2013-14.

3 scenarios for Glendale budget: All include cuts
Glendale finances tied to voters, arena, debt
http://www.azcentral.com/community/g...og.html?page=2
Without the team, Skeete penciled in an arena-management fee of about $6 million, a figure he estimated based on past arena audits from the former Coyotes owner and initial research into other cities' arena deals.
That fee is far lower than the amount discussed by former City Manager Ed Beasley, who had said it would cost at least $12 million to operate the arena. City officials had said the fee to Jamison was not a subsidy to the financially beleaguered franchise.
The city has never put management of the arena out for bid, so it's unclear if the city could actually find a company to book and operate the arena for Skeete's $6 million estimate. But an analysis based on that estimate shows Glendale could save about $29.5 million in the next five years if the Coyotes leave.

Tohono O’Odham tribe emerges as key player in Coyotes sale
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sport...rticle4552393/
A source familiar with developments in Greg Jamison’s attempts to buy the financially troubled NHL team said the Tohono O’Odham will be his major investor (whether as a partner or lender has yet to be revealed). The tribe could hold as much as a 50-per-cent interest if Jamison is able to complete the $170-million (U.S.) purchase.

Saving $29.5 million in management fees doesn't really mean much if you lose more somewhere else.

You've got to admire the precedent that has been set in Glendale. Not only has the city built and provided a free arena, they also subsidize the team so it will stay. Next time a team threatens to leave unless the government builds them an arena, they can also insist on a government yearly subsidy. I think the whole pro sports system is moving into the world of absurdity.

Given the bad blood between the City and Tohono O'Odham, it makes me wonder if this is the main reason why council is suddenly going back on their lease agreement (sure the sales tax is also a reason but remember how much money they were willing to throw to Hulsizer?). I think that council can't stomach giving any money to this group.

Just out of interest could this be used as a pawn in the CBA arguments??
Say the council vetos the deal and the purchase cannot go ahead, does the NHL have to move or close the team? Could Bettman say okay NHLPA you don't want to help struggling teams we will close one down, take 23+ players off your membership.
I don't know I might just be rambling here but could this be used to make the NHL's case or the other way around??

Why would the NHL shut down the team when they will make ridiculous money on a relocation fee in addition to revenues from a market.

the two greatest names in this thread are likely Horatio Skeete and Redfield T. Baum.

Our intrepid reporter Lisa Halverstadt is leaving AZ for San Diego next week, and won't get to write the final chapter.

This epic tale has outlasted two reporters now (with Rebekah Sanders being the other).
