A deal could still get done, but talk is that the leaked Skeete Sheet shows that COG believes the AMF without the Coyotes is $10M less, which makes a Goldwater challenge under the gift clause stronger.

And there, for once, we agree. Political pressure is getting to them.

The city is caught between a rock and a hard place. They still have massive debt to manage on an already underutilized arena. They are betting that the revenue they take from the existence of the Coyotes (direct and indirect - such as out-of-city visitors arriving and paying taxes on shopping and eating in Glendale) will exceed what they pay to keep the team there. But with the sales tax increase facing a stiff challenge, it would seem that bet is looking worse, so the city is now reconsidering the arena management deal.

Glendale drawing line in the sand over Coyotes arena deal

http://www.bizjournals.com/phoenix/b...sand-over.html

Jamison, to this point, has resisted changes to the deal as major adjustments could impact his ability to buy the team.

Changes to the arena deal could impact Jamison’s financing for his purchase or they could be built into a new long-term deal that still allows a final sale to happen.

Yup, change the deal and you change the risk Jamison and his partners must assume. They aren't stupid, and it is doubtful they would still go for it if the fee gets cut to a significant degree.

But, on the other hand, the value of the NHL sticking this out so long is that Glendale itself has gone from "move the team and we'll sue everyone" to meekly accepting that the team is likely gone. Makes the break much cleaner.

The lease in place is really what has kept Phoenix in place so long. If the taxpayer didn't owe so much on a virtually new arena, they would have been long gone.

When the city gives up and says that it can't support the team any longer, moving the team is easy. Before Glendale gives up, moving the team could have led to a large lawsuit and likely payout to the city of Glendale.

I'm pretty sure that the bankruptcy proceeding discharged the lease

Yeah it did, the NHL and the CoG are operating on a temporary lease, probably year to year. They can move the team whenever the temporary lease runs out. If the Jamison deal falls through it will be interesting to see if the NHL can get another $25M out of the CoG but I don't think they will.

They won't. Which is why the Coyotes will relocate prior to 2013-14.

Perhaps a lockout could give the NHL enough time to move the team before the upcoming season.

I don't see the city holding an emergency Saturday vote for Shane Doan's benefit. It'll be interesting to see what he does.

Phoenix Coyotes sale on the verge of closing as Jamison, Glendale hash out arena terms

http://www.bizjournals.com/phoenix/n...-verge-of.html

The two men are meeting and hashing out final details, according to several sources.

The arena deal could then be presented to the Glendale City Council for a quick vote. A majority of the seven-member council backed the previous Coyotes deal.

No chance whatsoever. While a shortened season would force a new schedule, there is no possible way another market can get set up and operational in time. When a lockout is called, everything freezes. When it ends, the league will be up and running within days. It is far too late to relocate the Coyotes.

THREE GOD D#$% YEARS!!! Ugh.. Can't believe I read the Moyes bk story when I still lived in Coach Hill..

Let's Go D'backs? actually, I have watched about 3/4 of their games this season and may get seasons next year. Hockey team or not, I need to follow a local team. Basketball is way too ghetto for me to get into.

One way or another, this can't go on forever... or can it?

Bump because it's Monday - Any news?

Edit: I did find the following from the Phoenix Business Journal - Not really anything new in here, but it does hint at the possibility that Jamison is not happy about Glendale wanting to re-structure the terms of the deal.
