If this is all you need, you are paying too much at $50 a month. Tell them what you want and you want a better price.

I can't believe they made this announcement with a straight face. What a boring phone. I'll be taking a pass for sure. Three iPhones in a row for me, but I've had my fill.

I agree that iOS needs some innovation as far as live updating icons (it's not always 23 degrees outside), and choosing how large each icon is (small, medium and large), and maybe some more info on the lock screen, but other than that, which is really all eye candy, iOS is still a better choice than Android IMO.

The hardware that was released today is a lot more significant than people are giving credit for.

On a side note, this whole Apple vs. Android thing is exhausting. Let people have their opinions, and hopefully these two companies can settle on something out of court. I heard they're speaking right now.

You spent all of half an hour with an Android phone (your words when you sold it on this forum) I fail to see how you can make that claim.

Just so I'm clear:

Iphone = Sheep
Android = Elitest

I feel like we have a new SNES/Genesis, Ford/Chevy, Pepsi/Coke age upon us.

I can never really understand why people in the US go with free or low end smartphones. With most of the big carriers, you're going to be spending a minimum of $70 a month to even have a smartphone. At that point, with taxes and fees you're looking at like a $2000 2 year commitment. Why quibble over $100 or even $200 up front when it will affect your experience for the entire 2 years?

But I know people do, because I see a lot of "entry-level" and mid-level phones out there. So I don't know if the iPhone 4 becomes the best selling entry level phone... maybe. But people are weird for buying outdated or underpowered phones to save 5%.

Here is the link to the full video of the stunningly bad and horribly disappointing press event:

Yup. I posted in another tread but the internet fanboy vitriol/silliness is pretty much like the console wars flame wars. You'd think people actually had a personal stake in it or something. It's not like sports teams or something.

What could they have announced that would have made you feel differently?

So many things. I don't get why the fanbois have such low expectations for the company. I imagine if they put out a fourth phone that looks the same as the previous three while running an UI from 2007 people might be more critical, but it looks like Apple may get a pass yet again this time around.

So, here is a list off the top of my head (I had made one of these earlier in the thread a few weeks ago as well):
- a slot for an SD card so I can increase the storage capacity at a fair price and at convenient times as my needs change over the course of the three years I'll have the phone. Seriously, they're just being pricks by omitting this and fanbois are doing a disservice to all the other consumers by not pushing on this issue.
- strength. The iPhone should be so strong that I don't even need a case.
- replaceable battery. Come on already...why are we not holding them to the fire in this...it's ridiculous.
- stretching it lengthwise is a joke. They should have grown it proportionately so it was wider, too, which is where the size matters more IMO.
- forward facing speakers instead of the current ones pointing at my feet (or to the person beside me when in landscape mode)
- said it a few times now, but a flip option of some sort so we can still have a big screen, yet not have it take up a ton of space in my pocket. This would also protect the screen while in my pocket
- not sure if they've addressed this already, but a "kill all open apps" feature so I don't have to close them all one at a time like an idiot
- a projector would have been awesome as well

I could keep going. Basically this phone offers me nothing that I don't already have in my iPhone 4 and I find that annoying. I'm going to support Samsung this time.

To me this pretty much looks like a Galaxy S2. Kinda disappointing.

I'm sure it has been mentioned somewhere but,

If you're looking to get a new iphone on a new contract, what's the tab going to be for? A quick search shows that the S3 and 4S each will have a balance of $550. Will the 4S drop with the introduction of the 5?

I'm trying to figure out the best bang for my buck.

I thought the body is now all aluminum instead of plastic.

I will agree with the micro SD card; however I can see why they do that. Why allow a user to put in a $20 16GB card when they can charge $100 for the same increase in memory?

Myself; the phone delivered what I wanted. Better battery, 4G, and faster CPU. Already liked the camera improvements that came with the 4S, so this is a win for me.

In the end, for those who have a 3GS, not a bad choice to be jumping in. Otherwise, I can see where then people who have had each iteration of iPhones are coming from...
