Not really news. Asian women could care less about getting kicked off the $100 bill. They only want $100 bills.

Yeah, like thats the worst thing to be stereotyped for. The only people who dont appreciate that are probably the moron Asians, if such a beast even exists.

Has it been mentioned before that that woman doesnt look Asian at all? I feel that that is important enough to be pointed out.

^^ God thats creepy.
I really feel like the oversensitivity is racism in itself. Especailly when its a bunch of white people saying "Hey, that Asian doing science is racist towards Asians!"
First of all, why do they presume to know what offends Asian people?
And isn't the implication that it is racist a stereotype as well? Someone who would look at the bill and think "Heh, that scientist os Asian. Of course!" would be considered racist, yes?

This is the dumbest thing I have read this week since someone told me to justify an NHL players career by their Molson 3 star appearances.

Focus groups attract only those who should not be making decisions for themselves, let alone others.

That's all they're known for. Being smart and geeky. An Asian guy can't be 'cool'. He can't be a good dancer at a club, he can't pick up girls at the bar, he can't be on the basketball team (that's why Asians fell head over heels with Jeremy Lin, a mediocre basketball player as best).
"Thanks to Jeremy Lin, I feel truly American now" blah blah blah.
The Asian guy can't be a GQ supermodel. Can't be an actor or in the performing arts. He could be in music but just piano or violin.
Asian girls at least are seen as cute and pretty... Asian guys are not. They're just good at science and technology.
|
Even those stereotypes are pretty ancient now and in general, in major cities, because there are such large populations of Asians, I don't see those stereotypes mentioned any more. I've spent significant time in both Toronto and Vancouver and I can honestly say I have rarely run into non-Asians that stereotype Asians that way.
In Ottawa, I've experienced it though and also in Calgary.
I think nowadays, the perceived stereotypes have more to do with the small group of Asians who self-loathe when nobody else feels that way about them any more.

On a similar note, as a Scottish Canadian I'm angered and appalled over the obvious stereotype that all Scotts are purple skinned. The $10 bill is a blatant slap in the face and I won't stand for it.
