The hilarious thing about that statement is that I think my two gay aunts, three gay cousins, as well as my numerous gay friends would be supportive, if not proud of me for attending a pride parade. I was at the local gay bar out here during the last night of pride last summer and I'm not ashamed of it one bit. I'm always happy to stand beside my friends and family in the face of bigotry.

^That's pure self interest, though. I've never been to a gay bar in AB, but have when I was in Vancouver, and I have to say the number of hot straight girls who are there with their gay friends was unbelievable.

Nah its like that at many gay bars, not just in Vancouver. Makes sense if you think about it, hot girls don't have to deal with drunk guys hitting on them all night long, plus they can exchange fashion advice with those gay men. The couple times I've been at a gay bar I had a much better time than I do at a normal club. Just a better, more laid back party atmosphere.

Just make sure you don't go to the ones that Tony frequents.

This is all true about Vancouver and most other cities - but not the case in Calgary, as my friends have found out.

It was certainly the case at a couple of gay bars I went to with friends the last time I was in Chicago. Just a fantastic night out--it's kind of a safe haven for a couple of straight girls. In a regular club, surrounded by a bunch of guys, it's easy to be intimidated and on guard. In a gay club, if a guy approaches you, it's likely to compliment your hair.

Just a quick thanks to Textcritic for a great thread. He did not need to rise the trolls but did and flexed some pretty impressive intellectual muscles. The Usain Bolt of biblical interpretation on a hockey website? Yeah, I think that's about right.

Also, MRCboicgy or as I always see it MRC Boy Guy, thanks for making me actually laugh out loud. You are one of my top five favourite posters. Is that gay?

Totally unrelated but figured why not post it here..

The Gay pride festival in Reykjavik is gearing up, its a huge event drawing 1/3 the population of Iceland to events during this weekend, a very family friendly and nice event for all.

So here's the US Embassy in Iceland showing its support, thought this was really cool of them:

Weird. I thought everything in Iceland was made of snow and ice.

Pastor Mike Patz of Gainesville, Fla., who wrote about the Chick-Fil-A disaster a bit more eloquently and Christian-like than I, writes:

"I am so sorry today for all the hatred that Christians have dished out toward gays. I am so sorry for all of the homophobic sarcasm that has come from the pulpits of Christian ministers. I am so sorry for the way we pick and choose which sins to condemn. I am so sorry that we have claimed to follow Jesus while we neglected widows and orphans, and then engaged in gossip and gluttony. I am so sorry that we have provided such a bad example for the rest of society to follow. I’m embarrassed, I’m ashamed, and I repent. I’m serious. I repent."
