Awesome result, but that was one of the most boring wrestling matches I've seen, mostly due to the Senegal wrestler having zero interest in attacking.

Wooo dominating at getting those shameful bronze medals!

People, people, please! You're forgetting what the Olympics are all about: giving out medals of beautiful gold, so-so silver and shameful bronze.

I don't follow it either, and I completely agree. No real wrestling even happened.

Ya the Senegalese girl just played defensively and held on to Huynh's wrists. For that reason I won't feel too bad about both of the balls being pulled in our favor.

I can say I do on most occasions but not everytime. There are certain USA competitors that handle winning or losing with grace and you just get a sense they are good people. It has nothing to do with Americans as a country, it only has to do with the way some American athletes are arrogant when competing on a International level. It just doesn't sit well with me.
Perfect example is there was an American gymnast that came in 4th or 5th in the Vault and he was genuinely happy for the succes of who medaled. That to me is what the "spirit" of the Olympics is about.
For me it depends on who it is. I can't stand Hope Solo and the fact she tested positive for a banned substance right before the Olympics and is still allowed to compete makes me not like her even more.
Most Americans are awesome and I will cheer for them if a Canadian isn't in it.

Part of it is also that people tend to like cheering for the underdog if they don't have somebody they feel strongly about. And realistically an American athlete is almost never going to be the underdog at the Olympics.

I'd say I'm the same. In this Olympics, I was all prepared to cheer against any U.S. swimmer but when I saw Missy Franklin's disposition I couldn't cheer against her.

Most of my hate comes from the completely one sided broadcasting NBC and ABC did and that horrible U-S-A chant that happens from time to time.
When I see CTV do a highlight package of an American athlete winning gold I cringe because I doubt NBC would do it for us. When I watched the Vancouver games in London, it was nice to see the BBC's genuine happiness and support for our athletes.

Personally, I see two root-causes. The first would be that the Canadians and Americans developed their programs earlier and built up a head start. Secondly, I think the North American programs focus more on athleticism and physical skill while other countries focus on technical skills (e.g. Brazil, France, and Japan). Early on, the physical players will dominate the more technical players.

Same for me, but my understanding is it's a tie-breaker format used if nobody scores a point during a round (if both score and they tie the winner is whoever scored last). Basically one wrestler is chosen at random (using the balls) to start with a hold on the other wrestler and you go from there.

Does anybody know decathlon well enough to say if I should be getting excited about Damian Warner? He came into the high jump in fifth but just set a personal best to finish probably tied for second in this event which should move him up even further.

Much better wrestling match, but we couldn't pull out the win. Too bad since the Canadian was the much more aggressive wrestler.

In freestyle, each period is wrestled to the end of the time and if there is no score then they draw a colored ball from a bag, called a "ball grab", and the wrestler's singlet color that represents the ball color selected is placed in the offensive position call a clinch where they must execute a scoring move and if they do they win but if not they defensive wrestler wins. As you can imagine the offensive wrestler generally wins in the clinch, but not always so again don't blink.

I still can't believe those 4 minutes of nothing was for an Olympic medal - crazy if not ridiculous.
