So proud of them - they deserve better. Let's hope they dig down and bring home the Bronze (and that the Japanese walk to a gold)

Feel terrible for the ladies. Must be so devastated since they played well enough to win the game. Terrible call potentially cost them playing for gold.

I wouldn't blame the American team for any of this, they only took advantage of the breaks given to them. Something you would have wanted the Canadians to do if the calls went their way.
Just an outright brutal job of reffing; she made mistakes far beyond just the third goal as well.

Just tuned in for the last 10 of extra time so didn't catch all the reffing or the first goals.
With that all said, atrocius defending in the last 10 minutes. The girl that scored the winner, earlier walked right through two Canadian defenders with about 3 or 4 to go and cut it back to no one. How Wambach wasn't double covered in the box, when she hit the cross bar is also puzzling.
And then on the final goal, how come every defender wasn't back in the box with a minute to go? One central defender or central midfielder was at the edge of the box covering no one as the cross cam in. Also, strikers like Sinclair should be back in there for the last few kicks of the game, since it appears the Canadian defenders all appear 3-4" shorter and can't match the vertical and that was clear a few times in extra time, and likely through the game. Get to penalty kicks when there's a minute left, and leave nothing to chance.
Too bad, and want to see some of the blown calls. But Canada really had no excuse not to defend a whole lot more desperate as that game was winding down in ET.

I'm not sure on the time limit, but the goalie can only hold onto the ball for limited time.

Good thing this isnt' a league. The coach should come out and rip the ref a new one.

I'm sure the coach will still rip the ref a new one. I can't wait for the press conference tonight.

A call of convenience. An indirect free kick is probably about a 50-50 to be a goal/penalty shot or nothing.

Okay, so you have six seconds to put the ball in play, does this ever get called? It seems like like every goalie holds on to the ball while their team gets set.

So proud of our ladies! Congrats girls, you should have won and you gave the US all they could handle.
Hopefully a big win against France on Thursday will bring home the first Summer Olympic team medal to Canada in ~70 years.

They just said 6 seconds, but it's rarely called and they usually get a warning first.

The reffing was brutal but so were Canada's give aways and passing game. That said, get a medal ladies!

Notice we didn't make as many substitutions late like the US team did? They have depth, we don't. The long game clearly favoured them and that was evident in the final 10 minutes. Great effort Canada, you should be proud.

Heartbreaking indeed. Would have loved to see them win but they've accomplished a lot more than any score sheet can portray.
These girls have broughten me closer to being a soccer fan than I've ever been before. I may just push my two young girls in that direction after seeing the direction of Canadian Women's Soccer.

I believe in the Jays.

I've never seen a delay of game result in a free kick in the box. Any time I've seen the call it has been a yellow card to the keeper and then still a goal kick. That's what the call should have been.

Goalie can hold onto the ball for 5 seconds (in their hands). They can put it down after the 5 seconds and keep it for longer if they want.
If the 5 seconds is exceeded, an indirect free kick is given. It is a rule, but it is never called. Usually the ref will give the goalie a warning first, and then call it...so who knows if Mcleod was given a warning. If she was, and it was a clear cut delay of game, then it can't be argued...but I bet it wasn't. That rule is never called, and should never...ever be called that late in a game.

I've been watching soccer for years and have seen that called exactly NEVER. Hell, each goalie had moments in this game where they farted around with the ball for 30 seconds and nothing was called.

Only watched the last 10 minutes.. nice...
You realize that by that time the Canadian girls could barely walk don't you?
Any blame on anyone for that last goal is just cruel.
