You know your car keys do more than just start your car right? hehe

I hate the honking during locking its annoying I have that disabled. My remote starter does that and everytime I figure out how to disable it the second FOB makes it start up again. I feel like a dick during winter starting my vehicle at 5am with a loud honk.

So if this is a city by-law it's a fine, and no demerits?
There is actually an iPhone app that measures sound decibels. I hear it's quite accurate.

My Harley is going to have a silencer exhaust, nobody has that. Totally custom, bro.

I'll know it's you coming when I don't hear anything and I spot the training wheels.

Hopefully they catch the punks in thier rice rockets that play thier damned music so loud that ones feels the vibration when they drive by. Then again we'll have a generation of youth with severe hearing problems when they enter thier 30's

I love how while I am driving I could text on my cell phone, eat an sandwhich, and watch a movie on a laptop, and pay for a ticket $100 less then having a loud car.

This is disappointing to me also. Texting while driving is only just barely above drunk driving IMO and needs to be delt with much more severely. I've seen women texting on John Laurie Blvd that were swerving like an inebriated driver.

as an aside, i wish the calgary police would start to employ some of the sneaky tactics to catch distracted drivers that otehr police services are using as i think driving and phone use is worse that it has ever been.......but i digress....

It is a half-hearted fine and now the initial scare of the new law is gone people have gone back to talking on the phone and texting just as much as before. Lets face it, if you knew drunk driving only carried a $250 fine you probably would have that extra beer your buddy offered you before going home. The consequences simply aren't steep enough to deter the general masses fromt stopping and the fine isn't big enough to warrant the police to set up traps as speeding is much more lucrative for their business (lets face it traffic law enforcement in Calgary has turned into a profit generating business).

Distracted Driver Story.

My old boss is driving down stoney trail in his suped up mustang all the while driving fast and updating facebook with pictures of his speedometer. Someones comments that 170km/h was slow so he speeds up just over 200Km/h snaps a picture. A cop see's him on his phone afterwards and pulls him over

The cop asked if he was texting and said let me see your phone, on the phone is the picture he took of his speedometer at 200km/h. The cop says you have got to be kidding me but can't charge him for speeding because he didn't see it but lets him off with a warmning for distracted driver.

tldr: cops don't want to waste time with distracted driver tickets as they are more of a hassle to them than its worth.

^ but the reality is that the consequences are that you could easily kill someone if you are distracted or drunk......

i saw the bylaw guy talking on the enws last night and he mentioned how no motorcycles had broken the thresehold for the snare. that was surprising to me.
i wonder if they'll give a ticket to someone who has their stereo pumping......

i am not worried about them giving me a ticket as my vehicles are stock, so i am indifferent to this new source of revenue

I think going over 96db in a car stereo is near or above competition levels...

In that case they need to lower the threshold, or they need to spend some time on 17th ave.

If the police are doing this right they'll only give tickets to the bikers who needlessly hit the throttle. Anyone who rides or is familiar with bikes knows that these guys are doing it on purpose to make noise, look at me!! Simply accelerating a motorcycle with a V-Twin engine isn't that bad. Slamming on the throttle is what makes noise, they even do it while sitting at red lights, just watch.

They do it on purpose and when you try to figure out why, it's really quite embarrassing when you realize they're basically children with a hockey card in their spokes amped up to 100.

I see no issue with giving tickets to abrasive ######bags on their obnoxious ######-compensating vehicles. You can start with the bikers on 17th and then move straight to cars with performance mufflers. Hand out citations for tattoo arm sleeves and Affliction t-shirts while you're at it.
