Yes, I have no doubt the Jays could have made a better package but if Miami was looking for about that specific combination of position/age/experience then the Jays have none. Were he not hurt Hutchison would be the closest equivalency I'd think. I also suspect that they'd balk at eating all the money.

I like the passion of Yunel Escobar and who does not step out of line by calling out his manager or teamates unlike Ramirez. Ramirez has been criticized for not playing 100%, arguing with teamates and media and refusing to apologize after the fact. Would one sacrifice clubhouse harmony for more hitting and speed? No thanks. The Jays have alot of depth in their lineup as well as great prospects on the farm. Their main issue is high number of injuries to the young arms which in most part have slowed them from competing well consistently.

Um, no. He's 30 years old this year. He has a ++ glove and gets on base at a decent clip. Little power and no speed. He's not an upcoming star, he is what he is. I like Escobar and am happy with him and his contract, but there's still upgrades out there.
They were talking about Hanley on MLB radio yesterday saying wherever he goes will probably be a better fit for him than Miami. He needs some vets to show him some leadership and call him out when necessary. Said Ortiz would have been perfect for him in Boston because you know Big Papi would have held him accountable. Not saying that the jays have a ton of vets, but I still think Joey Bats takes that roll well and old man Vizquel has to be some kind of leader after 20+ years in the bigs.
I'm not heart broken the Jays didn't land him, cause that is a ton of money to pay and if the new Dodger owners can eat that salary then good on them for not having to give anything up to get him.
Maybe the Jays are still in the Josh Johnson hunt?

Mmmmm Josh Johnson... *drool*
I'd give up a lot to get that guy. Big inning eating frame, lot's of K's, strong arsenal of pitches, under team control for next year (at a great price relative to talent), acceptable GB%, his ERA doesn't look good this year but it's way above the FIP (how old school, if at all, is the Marlins GM?... old school enough to think that ERA is a meaningful stat?). Man... How much better would the Rotation look with Johnson at the top of it? Johnson, Morrow, Romero, Happ, Hutchison (next year)... *drool*

If we are in sell mode I think we may be able to get something good for Old man Oliver

Don't see why they would be in sell mode. Despite the injuries they are keeping in the hunt so i think thats a bit of a slap in the face to the current roster. Not to mention what are additional prospects going to do for them? If Oliver wasn't signed for next year I would agree but I would rather hold on to Oliver and hope that he wants to pitch again next year and at that point, if healthy, Jays should be a playoff contender.

Don't know a thing about this guy either. All I will say is that I don't like this trade at all and feel the Jays got hosed on this one.

Seems like an informed opinion.

Not happy with the Snider trade... LF is finally opened up, he comes up and plays amazing d and hits a few bombs, and he gets traded for an reliever with very little track record.
Typical Jays buy low on premium talent trade, just the talent is going the wrong way. Thames is a meh to me, I like him personally, but he never should have started in LF over Snider. Hopefully a move is coming because Rajai in LF is a pathetic long term solution and Gose is a long ways from ready even if you move him to left.

Delabar is similar to Lincoln (Avg 1 K per inning)

Only thing i can think is that they see lincoln as a morrow type who could be effective in the rotation or someone has blown their mind with an offer for Oliver and this is part of a few more moves. Otherwise you don't trade a position player with Snider's ceiling for relief help that's 4 years older.
Hopefully Rajai isn't about to become the everyday left fielder.

With the excess relievers, I could see all of Lyon, Frasor and Oliver getting dealt tonight/tomorrow. We basically just acquired long term replacements for 2 of them by moving Snider/Thames.
If we can get a good near ready SS/2B prospect for any of those guys then it'll be a good series of trades.
