Although I remember voting for Captain America to beat Bats during the old Marvel vs. DC days. Too bad Cap lost out in the end.

Just got back from seeing it. Man, the movie is just awesome. That's what you want out of a summer blockbuster. A great way to cap the series. I was worried this one wouldn't live up to the first 2 but it holds its own for sure. Thoroughly enjoyed it, I almost can't wait to watch it again on Blu Ray.

No, those are the ####tiest least Batman-like stories.
They suck. They're not why you read Batman and the counter all the #### that has been done before it to tell a story not worth reading. The best stories are the ones where Batman realizes that in his head he's Batman, not Bruce Wayne.

I just came back and really enjoyed the movie. Like others have said, it was a great way to end the trilogy. To bad I had an absolute loser beside me critiquing the movie every moment possible, loudly. If it were a sci-fi film he wouldn't bitch, but he did and it was annoying to all those around. Myself, I didn't think much of Anne Hathaway. I thought her lines were a little annoying, and she overacted a little for a character that didn't need so much itonation of each word. Her body looked fantastic though. The other actors were fantastic. Commissioner Gordon was to me the star of the show. Joseph Lovett didn't overact as he's prone to do in past roles - he was perfect in this role and was a likeable character. Great ways of tying in characters from the previous movies as well. I liked the first better than the second because of the great human story, and this really did a fantastic job of enough action with another human story. This was probably the best of the series IMO.
As for a few things towards the end that I didn't understand:

Not a chance man. This is what the entire "Bruce Wayne: Murderer" arc was about. He is Bruce Wayne, and he is nothing without those who support him, like Alfred, Dick, Tim and Babs.
Almost all of Grant Morrison's (multiple award winning) run on Batman for the last eight years has dealt with Bruce Wayne being Batmans central identity, and not Batman.

I think sometimes Bruce Wayne struggles with Batman taking over his entire life but the essence of that character is still in Bruce Wayne and his humanity.
Superman on the other hand, he's actually Superman and Clark Kent is just his cover. When he's Clark he has to completely mask his true self.

"He's the Batman". Any number of ways, though they didn't show it specifically. But he was flying out over a ton of water. Quite easy to set the auto pilot and jump out.

How did "Robin" find the Batcave, and subsequently, is Batman supposed to be retired at the end?
|
Bruce had left a duffel bag for him. It had climbing gear and a gps with the co-ordinates to the waterfall. Boy wonder did the rest. Retired? Unlikely. But he's off enjoying himself for now.

Why didn't Bane get a proper kill-off? He was just shot back, but didn't really have a definite death.

This Batman is set pretty firmly into the 'real world', as it were. If you ensure that someone is 100% dead, they will likely stay dead. If you want to use someone for a possible future, you need to make sure that their 'death' is ambiguous enough to allow for the suspension of disbelief should they return.

I was wondering this as well but then recalled when he was first taking the bomb out of the city. It seemed like forever before he got that sucker up in sky. I mean it's a freaking unstable nuclear reactor and for the first bit he's just dragging it along. But it was likely that during that first few seconds he was setting the auto pilot and then jumped off before The Bat really took off and got the heck out of there.

Just in case anyone is interested a new version of the No Man's Land TPBs is being released with only 3 volumes (instead of the previous 5) and more of a complete story.
The previous 5 volumes only contained about half the original story. Two of the three new volumes have been released with the third being released next week. Can get all 3 for about $70 on amazon.ca.

I've purposely avoided this thread since the release, just so I don't read a spoiler.
But I finally went and saw it this past Thursday...and WOW! Perfect ending.
That being said, here are some of my takes on where this franchise could go. I'm not entirely sure if any of these have been posted yet, but here goes:
Personally, I am hoping for the first one. I like JGL, but this one really did wrap-up the series the proper way. It's been a while since we've all seen a series of movies end, satisfying the viewer. At least, I'm satisfied.

|
you needed the lunch in Rome part for a proper ending for Alfred, having his last scene in the series be weeping at the (false) grade of Bruce Wayne would have been a big downer. also i think actually showing Wayne in Paris was done to confirm that he did settle down with Selina Kyle, and i approve of that scene because of all the woman that Bruce Wayne could have ended up with, he snagged the best one

i'm not huge into the comics, but from what i understand she's Ra's Al Ghul's daughter but is in love with Bruce Wayne / Batman (she knows his true identity). she will never betray her father, but she's always trying to convince Bruce to rejoin the league of shadows. kind of like Catwoman in the comics, not exactly a villain or ally, certainly greyer than how she was portrayed in the movie (and she's a lot hotter in the comics)
