Considering this is the de facto gun violence thread:
http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2012/07/2...QtV334E.reddit
Quote:
A man in Cape Coral, Florida on Wednesday was arrested for shooting and killing an unarmed door-to-door salesman on his property.
Kenneth Bailey Roop, 52, has been charged with second-degree murder for killing 30-year-old Nicholas Rainey.
A co-worker who witnessed the shooting said Rainey had knocked on Roop’s door, but received no answer. While Rainey was walking down the drive-way, Roop pulled up in his pickup truck and asked why Rainey was at his house. Rainey explained that he was selling steak and seafood. The witness said Roop then pulled out a black handgun and shot Rainey. As Rainey lay on the ground, Roop fired another bullet into the back of his head.
Roop later told police that he shot Rainey in the head “for effect” and that he had three no trespassing signs on his property. Roop said he feared for his life.

Utterly horrifying.

Now now now, let's not rush to judgement when we don't have all the facts. We don't even know what that salesman was wearing.

Re: Dane Cook
His comments from the article posted on the preious page:
Quote:
“So I heard that the guy came into the theater about 25 minutes into the movie,” he said. And I don’t know if you’ve seen the movie, but the movie is pretty much a piece of crap. Yea, spoiler alert.”
“I know that if none of that would have happened, pretty sure that somebody in that theater, about 25 minutes in, realizing it was a piece of crap, was probably like ‘ugh f------ shoot me,’” Cook remarked.
|
Just a total dbag. I mean seriously, who calls TDKR a piece of crap?

Dane Cook calling anything a piece of crap might be the single most ironic thing I've ever heard.

Regardless of the situation this is a massively unfunny joke. I feel bad for the people who paid to see his act.

It comes from the fact that this could only happen in America. If you're telling me this could happen anywhere, feel free to post stories from other countries where this happens, where someone gets executed (and thats what this was, not some "I feared for my life" crap) for essentially nothing.

Yet he still probably had what will turn out to be a legal firearm.

Yes I'm sure the above post is the first time ever in the history of the world someone has said "God bless America" after an event in a sarcastic tone.

How old are you? You REALLY believe this only happens in America?
I won't argue that it happens too much here or that it happens more here than most other Western nations, but ONLY IN AMERICA?
You must have a short memory. It wasn't more than 2 months ago that some ######bag in Edmonton executed 3 co-workers and tried to execute a 4th for nothing.

Neighbours report this guy to the police because he had harrassed some neighborhood children before

Not even remotely the same. Not even the same ballpark, or league, or sport. One was a robbery, one was an execution. Did people die in both? Yes. Thats where the similarities end. Also note, the suspect in Edmonton used a pistol from his job, not one he acquired legally from a gun dealer. And our crazy man here has 14(14!!!!) weapons despite neighbours showing concern for him to the POLICE!Yes, only in America could that happen.

Robbery and a company issued firearm makes them legit non-American murders then. Got it.

Self or home defense is a very legitimate reason to have a firearm, in places it's legal to so.....hunting and pest control are legitimate reasons to own many rifles in various calibres, and like a car everyone has their own tastes on how they look
|
You are proving my point. I didnt say individuals, I said a living being. Pest control? To kill, harm a living being. Self defense? That would mean harming/killing a living being, whether a human attacker or a bear.
How is it over the top to suggest the explicit purpose of a gun is to harm or maim its target? That is exactly the point. The fact that it is also used for target practice is secondary. Add to the fact that the paper targets are often a sillouette of a human being.
You could also use NERF toy guns for to achieve hitting a target, so why not use those.
Amateur shooting sports are not the primary reason guns are developed or manufactured; it is a byproduct of the manufacturing of guns.
Guns have one explicit purpose, and there's no way you or anyone else can get around that.

Now for something completely different.
http://www.tsn.ca/nfl/story/?id=401566
Carolina Panthers WR Steve Smith donates $100,000 to the survivors of the shooting and challenges other high-profile people to do the same.
