Hudler has a track record of 4 good seasons in the nhl. Leino had one good year.
"4 good seasons" may be a bit of a stretch? Unless you consider 13g, 42pts and 10g, 37 pts good "seasons"? I'd say 20/50 would be a better representation of "good" for players looked upon for offensive production which closes the gap to 2:1 for Hudler.
I hope Hudler proves me wrong - it was just my first reaction to the announcement.... and maybe somewhat influenced by the couple of years they were both on the Wings roster and largely interchangable as a 2nd/3rd line winger.
I have no doubt that Hartley is sitting in the war room giving his thoughts as well. It's almost like they're asking him what he needs and they're out there getting it. I like this.
Trades must be coming. Our top 6 is now more like a top 7. Too many guys promised top 6 roles, like Glencross, Cervanka, Baertschi etc and now Hudler obviously. Even guys like Stempniak, Comeau and Backlund who aren't being used to the best of their ability in a bottom 6 role.
I think your right, a trade must be in the works. However, top 6 mintues should be earned.
Likely going to see something like this in the fall.
Alex Tanguay / Mike Cammalleri / Jarome Iginla
Curtis Glencross / Roman Cervenka / Jiri Hudler
Sven Baertschi / Mikael Backlund / Lee Stempniak
Blake Comeau / Blair Jones / Tim Jackman
Extras - Matt Stajan & Lance Bouma

It's a game of skill and ice surface coverage.
My 5 guys must cover the ice faster than your 5 guys.
Flames need backcheckers! Something that has been lacking for years.
Yeah, I didn't see any size or toughness in Carter, Penner, Kopitar, Brown, Stoll, Greene, Doughty, Mitchell, Martinez throughout the playoffs. LA media guide needs to be audited, eh?
People complaining about the size of our forward group?
Bouma, Jones, Jackman, Comeau, Glencross and even Iggy?
That's half the forward group right there, and none of those guys are shrinking violets, and can play a physical brand when called upon.
Hudler, Tanguay, Cammalleri, Baertschi, Cervenka and Stempniak.
That's likely the other half, and that group has skill to burn IMO.
Sounds like a GOOD mix to me.
I think having three lines each with a sub 6 foot player runs a serious risk of being plain outmuscled on the boards with little ability to change up mid game if they are.

I really can't see the flames putting cammalleri at center now. Sure he can play it but he's not a better option then Hudler.

I disagree. Cammalleri would be a better choice than Hudler. Besides, Feaster said if they can't add a legit top-2 center, then Cammalleri would play C.
Regardless, we've still got a whole summer for more moves. I don't think they're finished yet.
