Of course his equivalency will be very low, but that shouldn't be of much concern to anyone here, given that he was not drafted to fill an immediate role on the team. Precisely for that, it is somewhat silly and pointless to gauge the quality of this pick based on how he would perform in the NHL this season. Professional NHL scouts are experienced enough that they can readily detect high-end skill and vision, even for players who are playing to relatively much lower levels of competition. If Jankowski was a different kind of player, then I would be more concerned about his future long-term potential, but precisely because he is a playmaker and has been noted as an exceptional puck distributor, this is a skill that is entirely dependant upon his linemates's abilities to convert his plays. In other words, his vision and his ability to anticipate plays and place the puck will not suddenly diminish at a higher level of competition; certainly not to the degree like what we witnesses in Chuck Kobasew and Ryan Howse: two goal scorers who struggled to convert quality plays at a higher level.

Jankowski has no shortage of believers. What Nate Leaman, coach at Providence College, and Dubuque Fighting Saints Head Coach/General Manager Jim Montgomery have to say:
Quote:
For starters, Nate Leaman, coach at Providence College, which just happens to be the lad’s school of choice.
|
Quote:
“You’re talking about a guy who wasn’t even on Central Scouting’s radar eight months ago — and to go in the first round of the draft?” said Leaman. “If you were to talk to him and see how humble he is, none of that has gone to his head. He’s an extremely mature kid. He’s a great student. All these things, I think, factor into being a very good NHL player. And Mark has all the talent on the ice.”
After following Jankowski during the 2010-11 campaign, he went to watch him early last season at a tournament in Vermont.
“From the first period I saw him, I knew, ‘Wow, what a great step he’d taken,’ and that we wanted to have him as part of our program,” said Leaman. “There’s no doubt, in college, that he projects as a No. 1 centreman. He can do everything extremely well. He skates well. He handles the puck well. He sees the ice very well. But the biggest thing about him is he makes the players around him better.
“I obviously have a very biased opinion, but I see all the great characteristics in Mark. His character off the ice is outstanding. The work ethic is outstanding.”

“Mark is a tremendous young hockey talent,” Montgomery said. “He is going to be the first player in the USHL that was drafted in the first round that comes and plays in our league. Mark is going to be someone that takes the fans out of their seats when they watch him play next year.”

you wanna know where Craig had Sieloff? That's right, at 42 ...
There was actually a third Flames pick in Craig's top 60, as he also had Jon Gillies at 56.

Interesting.
Coincidence?
I wonder how closely the Flames draft list resembles Craigs?

obvious coincidence
how could C.Button know the Flames would trade down and get #42?
Also, the Flames had Sieloff at 20 on their list

Todd should be given a little talking to. "Give your brother another inside piece about our operation and your gone".

I would also question how accurate a linear equivalency co-efficient is... does a linear model hold at the tails?

Those are guys with biased interests in the player though. I'm more interested in comments like Strickland's from other GM's

Does anyone plan to go to the development camp?
I figure this is the soonest we'll see Jankowski playing with a fairer level of competition. If I'm not mistaken we had a couple guys take some video last year. That'd be awesome.

I dunno when Montgomery compared Jankowski to a 6'3 Gaudreau, I almost creamed my pants.

re: talk about his hands
I know SebC made some crack about wide angle lens in regards to his hands but check out his draft video when he went up to the podium. His hands are massive. It's like looking at a puppy's paws. The body is tiny but the paws are huge, you get a good gauge of how big the guy is gonna be.
Might be silly thing, and probably is but if he fills out he's going to be a big solid hockey player.

I believe that was Nehkara (sp?). I got to give a BIG thank you to Nehkara for doing that. If I lived closer to Calgary I'd definitely go, but I don't so those videos of development camp are very very appreciated.

No. Redline Report had Jankowski ranked 28th (still good) and where RLR would pick him. For those unfamiliar with Redline Report, like other draft guides such as ISS, they rank guys according to where they would have picked the guy (i.e. it's their list that they would follow on draft day). The mock draft is completely separate and takes into consideration team needs and draft tendencies (purpose being to predict where guys would go).

Great interview with Weisbrod. I apologize if this has been posted already.
Weisbrod said "if Jankowski were two days older, he would have been in the top five next year." (~ 2:10)

yeah...that list has TT as 5th, so not sure how much weight you want to put on it.
edit not sure if the OP was serious in using that ranking in particular.
