But of all the ones that people worry about when questioning the Jankowski pick, the TSN one is the most laughable. Are we to believe that Mckenzie runs around the continent scouting 2+ rounds of draftable players? Dreger is traveling to North Dakota and Minnesota to check out potential 3rd rounders?
As usual, draft day has made for great reading.

TSN (McKenzie) doesn't scout a single player. He takes a poll of 10 anonymous NHL scouts, then averages the rankings to make his list

I think its smart for Jankowski to go to the USHL -> College route so that he can focus more on his personal development instead of worrying about learning to play a system. I remember someone on CP taking a look at players that went through the college route and found that more of them had breakout years later in their career than CHL players. (Glencross, Sharp, Bieksa were some mentioned)

This is was infurates me about "NHL Insiders" They don't actually have to really know anything, they just need to talk to a few people and then pick the sexiest opinion.

And then they have McGuire either praising or criticizing the picks, which in turn forms the majority opinion on HFBoards. That opinion forms the basis for the opposing fan trolling that happens. Of course, it doesn't help that HFBoards is an Oilers cheerleading site.

Totally, OT, but I was talking to my old neighbour's dad, he is a scout for the flyers, and he was saying the same thing. He can't stand mckenzie et al. for that very reason.

I agree, and I also think that perhaps more importantly, that one year in Dubuque will serve as a preparatory year for what is to come afterwards. In his scouting reports, the only real negative comments—aside from his slight weight and strength—had to do with his lack of experience under high-performance coaches. At the Beantown Tourny it was mentioned that Jankowski didn't have a good grasp on positioning or playing a system, and also that he had no real experience with the level of commitment required to be a pro. This is because of his current situation, and is one that will be rectified through another year in an elite-level Juniour league like the USHL. This is a primary reason why this pick is a long-term project: high-performance lifestyle, conditioning and discipline tools are things that CHL players have been working on for a few years, and Jankowski will just be learning them for the first time this next season.

He's already heading to the gym and start training with his trainers. Now the hard work begins for him.
The tools he has cannot be taught. Vision and hockey sense, the size the speed. Weight can be added, defensive game can be taught. It's not like we are waiting for him to develop a skill set, he has the tools he just needs to bulk up and play tougher competition.

Textcritic: I agree. If his grasp of positioning is relatively weak, it would be a shame for him to play in a league where the coach is afraid to use him. Playing at a lower level with the same coach that developed Girgensons and Gaudreau, hopefully he can come out of the USHL with defensive understanding, conditioning, and physical strength but still being an elite offensive star.

That's because they haven't had to put any thought into their last three first rounders... and they think they are so smart for that.

He had Ryan Murray ranked at #13? Regardless of what anyone thinks of the Jankowski pick, I wouldn't use that list to support your position either way.

Matt Finn at 9?
Interesting that Finn was one of the players Tod Button mentioned as being the Flames' second choice if Janko hadn't been available at 21.
The Button boys may not talk to each other about whose on their lists, but they definitely seem to think alike.

The maple leafs had Reilly as #1 on there list.
Like its been mentioned it was all over the map this year. As long as our team stayed true to there list that's all that matters.

Pretty obvious that his brother Tod told him who the Flames were picking, so he slotted it into his list.
His brother should really keep his mouth shut.

Not sure why are critical of the #Flames taking Jankowski. Has off the charts skill... several teams were dissapointed they didn't get him

Based on what Tod said on the Fan on Saturday, he was trying to keep Craig off of Jankowski's trail because he didn't want too many other teams to start looking too hard at the kid.

Not sure if this is a fata or not...

The single biggest issue with the Mark Jankowsi selection by the Calgary Flames is the challenge of correctly putting his performance at Stanstead college in proper context. Both qualitatively and quantitatively: when viewing a player, his abilities are naturally gauged against those he is competing against - there are many all-star AHLers who are entirely ordinary in the NHL. Many high scoring juniors don't make it as professionals in the AHL, etc. In short, the lesser the league, the easier it is to look like a star.
