I think the weight gain is more to do with safety regulations over the years. (every car these days is crammed full of nanny tech). Well that and everyone seems to want their car to be a place to play xbox.

The service guy quoted me $400 plus labour for a 255/35/18 runflat. ######ed price for a runflat and horrible tread life since I only used the tires during the summer months. When you return a leased car the tires have to have a certain depth left so if I don't replace the old tire now I would have to do it before the lease was over.

The service rep says there's nothing stopping you from running over another nail on the way home wink wink...two new tires later I decided never to lease or get car that comes with run flats ever again....also any small pot hole will put a bulge in runflats...terrible tires.

Because there was no spare it gave me huge anxiety while traveling further than Banff.

So did the insurance cover both tires? Otherwise it sounds like you spent $500 to save $400

I bought a 2007 honda civic lx coupe at 67000km for 15,500 aug 2010, financing it for 5 years and all in all including interest after 5 years I would have paid a total of 19k.

Am I paying too much for this car?

Plus how stiff cars are now. A stock 2005 Mustang convertible is stiffer than a 1992 Mustang coupe with a full roll cage. All this rigidity we demand now comes with a weight penalty.

Yes you can, as long as its not in the sidewall. I've had Harper's do three run-flat repairs for me thus far when I ran over screws / nails. The dealers won't fix them though, because they can't be certain that you didn't drive on them while they were flat. (After you drive on a deflated runflat for 125(?)km, they're totally toast).

Does anyone know how long it takes to get a Residential Parking Permit once you've sent it in. I just faxed mine over today....should I be expecting this thing soon, or sometime around 2013?

If I keep my car for 7-9 years, below 150K KM, from a resale value stand point, would it be better to buy a 1st year new car or a last year last model car (assuming you get huge discount on the soon to be old model car)?

For example, the new Acura RDX is coming out so should I buy the old 2012 model with discount or the new 2013 model?

I've seen newer model cars for cheaper than older model cars at the same dealer, because the incentives and kickbacks for the dealers are far greater on the new models. It may not be like this for all cars in all years, but just because it's older doesn't mean it's cheaper.

Not sure, but guard those visitor parking permits with your life. They won't give you new ones for that year.

I always just walk down to the CPA office, in the main floor of that fancy brick parkade on 9th ave between 5th and 6th street. You're supposed to show your ID and registration, I've gotten by with just ID before. They give them to you on the spot. The line has never been more than 1 person deep.

I'm considering buying a new car next year. I want to do what my mom did 4 years ago when she bought a new car; she got a 2007~ when the 08's were available (still new tho) and got 0% financing. If I get a really good deal on financing does that usually mean a worse price on the car itself? Or was it the fact she went with an 07 when the 08's were becoming available?
