Peyton has been pretty honest telling teams right away and as the process has gone on, very quickly telling them he's not interested. He's also stayed out of the media 100%. Lebron did Larry King, the tandem of Bosh and James were both media whores leading up to "the decision" and made sure the spotlight was clearly on them, even more evident after the fact by the Decison and that multiple rings celebration party after words. That being said basketball is a different sport, Peyton and Lebron come from much different walks of life, and have different personalities. I just saw Lebron james encouraging this massive media frenzy even before the free agency period started and all the way through it.
Back to NFL News
Alex Smith is set meet with the Seahawks after his visit to the 49ers. What a crazy few days it's been in Niners land.

LeBron was shopping around while his home team was still desperately trying to re-sign him. Manning was released by the Colts. The only thing similar in these situations is that they're both free agents, other than that they are on opposite ends of the spectrum.

Yeah, I agree that this is different than Lebron because the Colts are the ones who released him and are moving on. Plus Manning maintaining a low profile himself.
It's different than Favre because Manning to this point has been 100% clear that he intends to play again. At this point in time, I don't think Manning is bringing a posse along with him either. If he picks Denver, than Dallas Clark might end up there given the Bronco's lack of a proven receiving tight end. But if he picks SanFrancisco or Tennessee I don't think Jeff Saturday nor Dallas Clark are coming along for the ride.
At this point of the three teams, I think Denver is the one who has to sign him. Tennessee have a viable plan in place at QB with or without Manning. Alex Smith still knows the Niners are the best fit for him if he doesn't go there.

That's the trump card in all of this. How much of these Alex Smith visits are just him trying to gain some leverage? Playing for Miami or Seattle means competing for the starting job, learning a new system again and playing for a lesser team. SanFran is the best fit for him in so many ways, do the 49ers still want him back and are hoping by working Manning out he will accept their initial contract offer? If they think their not getting Alex Smith back, you think they'd be ALL in on Peyton then but as far as we know he still hasn't even visited their facilities yet which seemed to be a big deal in the 6 plus hours he spent in Denver and Tennessee.

Seahawks get Matt Flynn
3 years, 26m with 10m guaranteed
Like that a lot, doesn't cripple them if he doesn't pan out

Really like that contract and WOW! What an ugly offseason it's been for the Dolphins PR.
They were the favorites by so many for Manning and Flynn was almost thought of as a sure thing as a back up plan.

ya Dolphins are a mess right now
Garrard and Smith are the only real two QB's still out there, I hope for their sake they aren't the team that reaches for Tannehill

Brady Quinn is awful, worse than Palko. Ricky Stanzi can't possibly be worse than him.
I guess the Chiefs are happy being a last place team. I'm mad if this happens, waste of money on a guy who's only skill is holding a clip board and wearing a hat.

I think this has the potential to end best for the Broncos, if Manning signs there than not only is Jacksonville a potential Tebow team (who would likely be willing to give up a 1st) but Miami might become one too

Nice deal for Seattle considering Flynn wanted something like 5 years 60 mill. The Fins obviously offered much lower. Maybe Smith has been the target for Miami, who knows. Maybe they have been looked at Tannehill or Weeden in the draft the entire time. The Dolphins were only the favorite for Manning until Denver and their 43 mill in cap space showed up. But regardless, Ross is sure having a great time owning the Dolphins.

Is it just me, or have the Dolphins become the Edmonton Oilers of the NFL?

Interesting risk by the 49ers. Must really believe they are going to get Manning, or they've seen something in Colin Kapernick.

What is Smith rumoured to be asking for? Im shocked that the 9ers would be so quick to dismiss him after the season they had and the way that Harbaugh spoke of him. I just havent paid attention to the situation with him much this year i gues

You would think Smith would wait to sign, in Miami or anywhere else for that matter, until Manning signs. If Manning doesn't end up in SF, do the 9ers throw a little more cash Smith's way?
