and as for how big of a role certain ME2 characters are playing in this game, how the hell would things turn out if they had not survived the collector base? i'm about halfway through now, and there are already several major points in the story that would have turned out completely different had a character from ME2 not survived. i'm gonna have to go through ME2 again and make all the wrong decisions to kill as much as my crew as possible, just to see how ME3 changes
if you take the Salarian's offer and have high enough Renegade or Paragon points, Mordin doesn't die. i convinced him why it would be a bad idea to release the cure, so he sent the elevator up to the top empty to fake his death (and further convince the Krogans) and now he's working on the Crucible project
however in my playthrough Wrex is dead and i did destroy the data. Mordin had figured out the cure anyways and would have gone up the tower had i not convinced him otherwise
Spoiler!
Apparently it is impossible to save him if either one of those is done the other way around. I tried everything, checked walkthroughs.Still, saving the Krogan is worth it.

If all your crew died in ME2 the side missions would be completely different. I understand the argument about the squad mates, but having 10-12 squad mates is silly since you can only use 2 at a time and some of them are the exact same build. It would have been nice to use some of the ME2 characters though (outside Garrus) as squad mates as you build a relationship with them, have to do a loyalty mission, use them for a suicide mission, then they're never seen from again.
Spoiler!
In the main questline I've used Mordin, Thane, Tali, Wrex, from what I can remember, with Thane and Mordin dying. In side missions I've met Jacob, Grunt, Miranda (had a relations with in ME2) and Samara.
I assume most are at least a little bit into the game so this shouldn't be a spoiler, but I hate the fact that there are no Krogan or Drell squad mates. It's BS, they're my two favorite species.

This. A thousand times this. I WANT A KROGAN! TAKE EDI!

well the fact that you can actually be a Krogen in multiplayer kind of makes up for that. running up to a Cerberus soldier, bashing him in the head then blowing his face off with my Claymore, all the while in a Krogan battlerage is all kinds of awesome
oh and i just finished the Quarian fleet mission, and at the end my reaction was something like this
the finale for that was perhaps the most epic moment of the entire series so far, far awesomer than any boss encounter in ME1 or 2. the way that Bioware has ramped up the storytelling for ME3 is incredible IMO, this was only the latest jaw dropping moment i've experienced from many so far
I found that Biotic Charge + Nova used with the right perks is absolutely deadly. I can take on almost anything myself. It's getting annoying though because the only thing I can't are the enemies which can insta-kill you (Phantom's, Banshee's, etc.), and I'm the only one that ever get's insta-killed when I play with my team.
What part are you talking about Hemi? The huge ship exploding or?

taking on a reaper on foot with a laser targeter, calling down orbital strikes and dodging his laser of death at the last second was pretty damn cool. with every shot, he moves closer to you and at the end you're staring into the eye of the beast just before it gets blown to #### from the armada in orbit. then talking to the Reaper as it's dying and you calmly state that you're going to give the rest of his buddies the same treatment. highly gratifying moment for me

Couldn't agree more. These are two of the coolest races by far. At least we still get Garrus. That guy is one BAMF.
However, regarding Thane
Spoiler!
I swear someone was cutting onions near me when he died on the Citadel. Such an awesome character. I was hoping he'd kill that assassin I wasn't "onboard" with the game until that point. It started to grab me when Mordin sacrificed himself. Bah... he was a cool character too and I was sad to see him go. I guess they all can't make it out alive... Bioware has done a great job of bringing it all together. It's been interesting seeing how my choices have affected this game.
Great game, but honestly a lot of crappy moments so far for members of my team that i really like. Especially with the Quarian Mission.
Spoiler!
WTF, both Legion and Tali die? I picked the Geth fleet as i thought the quarian admirals were a bunch of dbags, but figured i'd get the option to try and get the fleets to stop firing on each other. Instead Legion dies, then Tali throws herself off a cliff? F that. So far my team is still like 4 people, as every other member has died. I have that Jersey Shore guy, Ashley, Garrus, Edi and Liara. Meanwhile, Mordin, Zaeed, Legion and Tali have died. I was pretty pissed when they killed off both Legion and Tali at the same freaking time.

Regarding team-mates.
Spoiler!
It sucks that all the cool characters like Mordin and Thane end up dying, but the terrible buttholes like Jacob and Kaiden (I really regret not taking Ashley, Kaiden is being a complete dick in this game) get to survive. Thane was an awesome character and its a shame he died, though he did go out fighting at least.

I haven't got that far yet, I am about to do that (it's on Rannoch right?) I have been playing multi to get my Galaxy at War readiness level up, up to 89% now.

again, this seems to be base on prior decisions. here's what happened for me
Spoiler!
when it came time to choose between the geth fleet and quarians, i had the renegade and paragon options light up. choosing the renegade response had my sheperd start yelling at the quarians to back down as i uploaded the reaper modifications, which they did and then Legion sacrificed himself to give all the other geth pure sentience. now i have both the geth and quarien fleets in my war chest, Tali is a squad member, and the geth are helping the quarians recolonize their homeworld

Not sure what I did wrong. My guy has full reputation, but I had no options light up (I chose "give me answers" to the Reaper though maybe that's why?). Now all Quarians are dead, Legion is dead, Tali is dead, but I have the Geth army. Talk about fail! I saved just before the Reaper comes so I'll restart and see what happens.

did you do Tali's loyalty mission in ME2? and what choices did you make there?
^ I haven't got to this mission yet, but I'm already positive I'm going to be frustrated/dissapointed with it since I don't have my ME2 savegame. It's already annoying enough having Liara talk to me like we've never met and tell me all about her time infiltrating the Shadow Broker WHEN I WAS THERE... ugh. It'd be nice if there was a way to download other people's savegame files or set your own settings on a big checklist pre-game or something. I barely have the time that I'd like to devote to this game, definitely don't have the time to re-play ME2 to the full extent I did the first time around... but if it starts to frustrate me enough I might have to.
