I am surprised no one posted this excellent piece of advice on parenting yet:

We've actually been ok. The nurses and doctors have fully explained everything that's going on, and we fully understand. It helps a lot too have all the information. I know she's sleeping well, so I'm sleeping well too.

I kind of feel I SHOULD have started a separate thread now. lol. I don't mean to highjack this one with the news of our new son.

I suppose it's all relevant information to the thread, though. It should help others.

Hey everyone. Just wanted to give a quick update.

Brandon is now home! We took him home this afternoon, after 20 days in the hospital. He's doing well (eating, sleeping, etc, etc). We have him on a prescription of caffeine for the next 4 weeks along with the normal vitamin drops.

ps. his entire room is decked out in Flames pictures, flags, etc, etc.

20 days? Forgive my ignorance but I thought childbirth practically required a hospital drive through.

Usually an over nighter, unless they come 5 weeks early like DJ's kid did. My kid is going on 4 days late.

Woh. Well then hopefully you won't have the same scares and such that we've been through. I guess late is better than early, when it comes to child birth dates.

So glad to hear the good news, and he sure is a good looking little boy.

Now try to relax and enjoy him.

5 Love Languages of Children. I read the one for singles and it was amazing and did wonders to my relationships with everyone around me. Do the test, and read more about it here: http://www.5lovelanguages.com/

Here is the only advice any parent needs. Love your kids at 37 years old the same as you will the day you take them home from the hospital.

What else is there to say? Intuition goes a long way. don't overthink it.

A good start would be something that made a lick of sense to begin with. I have no idea what you're trying to say, but I am intrigued at the possibility of there being only one piece of advice I need to know.

I think what he's saying is that when my daughter wont stop crying and I think it's because she hasn't pooed in two days, that instead of some kind of home remedy or a trip to the doctor, that I just need to love her.

We need to take this thread to 11.

Don't spank your kids:
http://www.canada.com/Spanking+lead+...463/story.html

That should do the trick.

I've always thought that there was more productive ways to discipline children than physically hitting them. Although a slap on the hand can help in certain instances.

Once they're old enough to be put to work, I think it's the best form of discipline. That age is usually much earlier than people think.

Nothing's gotten my two year old to eat his supper better than a smack on the ass. You can't reason this kid into eating his food. The other kids were easier, but this one's a nightmare.

At three there's really not much point to it anymore, though. There are far better things I can take away from him that will hurt him more than a smack.
