I didn't think a new thread was needed...

IT'S A BOY!

Please welcome the newest Flames fan!

Brandon was born at 11:52pm last night (January 14th). Weighing in at 6 pounds and 6.2 oz. He's 18 and 3/4" long. 5 WEEKS early! Delivered by cesarean, since he was in breach position. Both Mom and Brandon are doing well, although Brandon will have to stay at the hospital for the next couple weeks for observation and stuff...since he decided to make an early entrance. Mom's water broke @ 8pm last night...just before the game. lol

Thanks guys! All the replies mean a lot. I appreciate it.

It's 12:25am and all I can think about it the little guy. He's in the NICU, because he was 5 weeks early. So needless to say...he's hooked up to all these monitors and things. If you're not educated on what he's hooked up to, it's kind of hard to look at. But the doctors have said he's doing MUCH better for a baby that was born 5 weeks early than they could expect. He is breathing on his own and his lungs are getting stronger and stronger.

Anyway, I guess I'll try to get some sleep.

Cheers!

How long do they expect him to be in NICU for? We're 2 weeks away from our due date, I couldn't imagine the frustration of having your little one in NICU for a few weeks + and not having it home.

Congrats! Holy cow, he's a biggun for 5 weeks early! My little girl was four days short of her due date and smaller than him! Hope his time in NICU is short.

Anywhere from 10 to 14 days. But he could be home as early as this week. It all depends on how fast his lungs develop and get stronger. From what we've been told he's doing very well and things are looking great. It most likely won't be that long (14 days).

Yah, that's the good news. The doctors said that although he was 5 weeks early, he was a great size and weight for being so early.

I'm heading over to the hospital now to visit him and my wife. If I have anymore significant updates I'll be sure to post them.

And again, my wife and I appreciate all the kind words and support.

My second had RSV just a week after being born, and had to spend 10 days at the hospital with all those tubes and IVs stuck into him. I hear you, it's not easy at all to see. It sounds like things are under control, so that's good. Make sure the kid's mom stays sane and rested, this can be especially tough on her, at least it was for my wife.

Glad to see things are going well, congrats to you and your new family.

Looks big enough to be pushing a lawmower before very long.

Best thing you can do to help your wife out is to pick up a breast pump and use it to fill a couple bottles for night time feeding. Then you get up for the feedings and let her sleep extra during the night time. I found this really helped her recover quicker and also gave me a chance to bond with the baby.

Male lactation, eh? I know that's not what you meant, but that's what I saw the first time reading it.

Hey I didn't say it gets cheaper

I can only speak as somebody with a 2 year old. Those first few months were by far the hardest part of parenting I've encountered in my limited experience.
