Question for anyone. What happens if they find him guilty of aggravated assault? Does he rot in a Mexican prison until his trial there? or does he come back here and have a trial? I'm not sure how these things work.

Wow, they came right out and stated it was the husband. I wonder if they realize that if they're wrong, it's actually worse for them to make this claim in an attempt to make Mexico look safe, than it is to just say nothing.
If I'm a canadian traveller and I hear that things happen sometimes in Mexico, I may be a little leary of going there. But if I'm a traveller and I hear stories of police blaming significant others in cases like this (and it somehow comes out later that they were wrong), I'd scratch that country off the list so fast.
They can literally ruin the rest of your life, with their incompetent/corrupt police, and with a vested interest to keep their country looking safe for their billion dollar tourist industry, it's a recipe for disaster.

This is, after all a talkboard, the whole point of which is for reletively uninformed and illiterate individuals (like myself) to sound like we know a hell of alot more than we really do, it also gives the mentally challanged something to do now that basket weaving has fallen out of favour.

I dont think anyone is going to hunt the husband down, unless it actually is Amorak/THE SCUD, in which case I'd be indifferent.
The fact of the matter remains that there is hardly enough evidence to form a solid opinion one way or another.
Maybe they're withholding that evidence because its a pending investigation?
Maybe they've got nothing and are considering railroading the husband into some awful Mexican pound-him-in-the-ass prison in order to save face for tourism.
Who knows? But some outcomes seem more likely than others based on the evidence presented and some people are having a little fun playing detective. Its not hurting her or her family, so I dont see the harm, so long as nobody is going to her house and picketing that her husband be arrested based on no evidence or anything.
It is 'Guilty until Proven Innocent' in Mexico, isnt it?

He would be tried and sentanced in Mexico, he could then apply to serve his sentence in Canada, but that would take a year or two to arrange and our current goverment is less keen to agree to this than they used to be.
The Mexican authorities are amenable to a large backhander to grease the path to this though, and if he has enough dosh he can probably make it all go away down there, the wife might try and persue it up here.

Well if they were holding someone without evidence that may be the case, as is why would I have an issue? Assuming there's actually evidence then go ahead and arrest the guy and prove the charges.
My immediate concern when reading the original story was that the Mexican police would do the 'it's the husband' thing without any evidence in order to avoid making their tourism industry look bad. If that's the case and there is no evidence, then I would hope I wouldn't be the only one to take issue with it.

Isn't is strange that they still aren't sure if the security cams picked up the attack? This happened days ago. Shouldn't they know by now?

Why not? Tourists buy drugs.

This is what the article actually says (for those of you who didn't read it ":
The governor insinuated that this was a case of domestic violence, but did not point any fingers directly at the husband or other any other family members.
So what does this mean - Domestic Violence - Fellow vacationers?

Domestic violence is defined as spousal or family abuse as far as I know. Dont think they were there with any other family members.
Not pointing any fingers means its a suspicion, but dont have enough evidence yet to officially charge.
Edit- if you watch the video, it says the family does not believe the allegations

For some reason, I have a hard time believing the husband did this. Wouldn't she have freaked out when she saw him in the hospital room?
Mexico is corrupt and there IS a scam going on there where tourist are attacked and then taken to private clinics where they have to spend thousands to get medical attention. The people involved are all probably part of a group from the attacker, to the taxi driver to the clinic and I bet police too. Ugh... and to think I wanted to move down there too. Thank god my wife talked some sense into me.
