As far as I am aware, any item that can not be dropped by the user is a quest item and does not actually weigh anything in inventory.

Not entirely. The Elder Scroll (20), from what I can tell, can't be removed (without the aforementioned College of Winterhold), and neither can the Stones of Barenziah (up to 11.5) or the Amulet of Gauldur fragments.

What is also annoying about the stones of barenziah is they don't freaking stack after you get the quest to collect them all

I already tried that, but I don't have that option when I talk to him.

I'm guessing there's something else I have to use it for before I can get rid of it.

I guess it's not necessarily "quest" items that do not weigh anything, and just items you can not drop that do not weigh anything.

Now, I'm only level 15 and only have a few of the Stones of Barenziah and haven't actually tried to see if they affect encumberance.

I spend more time reading about Skyrim then actually playing it, unfortunately.

Or just edit your weight capacity.

Setting a weight capacity so I have to play pack-mule with a companion and/or fast travel to a house a bazillion times so I can get all the loot from a dungeon or try out a bunch of different armor sets is the opposite of fun IMO, it detracts from the game and doesn't add anything (other than a false sense of realism, I can shout dragons out of the sky but I can't have a bag of holding?).

I hate games that do this.. fill the world with neat things to see and collect, then restrict my inventory so I have to either not collect those neat things or spend hours doing inventory management.

EDIT: I finished the main quest carrying like 6000 pounds or something

the elder scroll games are full of little annoyances like that. why does the enchantment run out on my weapon? it's magic! no other game makes you need to recharge your magical weapons, and it's a stupid mechanic

Yes, I have done the harvest too and received the reward. I meant that whole side-quest, I just couldn't remember the name of the quest, which is why I called it Blackreach.

Makes more sense than the Fallout overencumberance laws though...those break so easily...

I have 300 000+ caps in New Vegas. Thank you Stealthboy

As someone who discovered this game just after Xmas, and is completely hooked, is it worth playing Oblivion after this or is Skyrim a massive upgrade?

Upping your stamina will up your max weight capacity...If you are talking about modding it I don't know.

In the console:

player.modav carryweight <amount>

Where amount is what to increase it by.

I have a friend who's waiting a year before playing because he says the mods improved oblivion so much that he's going to wait. I never understood what he meant until i saw this video:

Honestly, that doesn't answer the question. Oblivion came out in 2006, Skyrim 2011, a 5 year gap is expected to have better graphics.

I've never played either game and noticed Oblivion was for sale on the real cheap, I'm wondering if the gameplay is worth it.

I picked up all three Gears of War during the Christmas break, and obviously the third game is superior in graphics to the first, but the first and 2nd one are still fantastically fun to play.
