man, we have so many prospects that get hurt hindering their development (wahl, negrin come to mind), really hope baertchi isn't also on the list.

he was having such an unreal season, it would suck to have all that momentum cease.

You don't think so? I think if you were to watch a Can-Rus game and then watch that Flames-Isles game from last night you might be surprised as to which one looks like a more difficult game to play in.

Canada will be lucky to have half a dozen players on their team make the NHL. Same with Russia. 100% of the Flames and Islanders players are good enough to play in the NHL.

The pace of the Flames/Isles game last night was fantastic.

WJC is exciting because of the inferior players on the teams that cough up pucks and miss assignments which lead to scoring chances.

Even the best WJC players ever need to adjust to the pace of the NHL

We'll have to agree to disagree then. Yes they are more exciting due to the mistakes that players make. But I know I've sat through NHL games that werent moving as fast as some of these games.

You think only 6 guys on Canada are going to make the NHL?

Hubredeau, Hamilton, Gormley, Murray, Schiefle and Strome are all pretty much guaranteed to make it. Smith-Pelley and Connelley already made their teams and 1 or 2 other guys are likely to make based on past teams and the success of players.

I think it would be a huge disappointment and a number of busts if only 6 guys from this team made the NHL.

10 guys from this team making the NHL might be a conservative guess.

Many of the best players in these games are only playing in it because they are not able to handle the pace of the NHL, if they could the would be playing for their NHL teams now. Of course many of them will be ready in a year or two and give them a couple more and we wont be surprised to see some of these guys as stars of the NHL but right now it's a notch below in terms of "pace."

Sucks, but at least its a "light" concussion. Hopefully it doesn't get worse the next time he laces up the skates.

back to the concussion issue, I wonder if at some point in tourneys like this the roster size will have to be expanded?

having 2 (or whatever) subs is fine to deal with conventional 'orthopedic' injuries that might come up, but if they become increasingly vigilant about using concussion precautions there may be several other guys that need to sit, that just a few years ago would have been 'gritty kids' playing with their 'bells rung'

Canada will be lucky to have 6 players make it? That is some exaggeration right there.

The majority of the defense will likely make the NHL. Go look at previous teams if you disagree.

I think at least 8 of the forwards will probably make the NHL as well.

These are the top young players in Canada, a country that produces the most NHLers. The majority of these kids will make the NHL. Go look back at previous rosters and you'll see.

I've always wondered why they never used this solution. If players are getting injured and you don't want to disturb the order of your line-up, you should be allowed to have extra players in the press-box in case these type of things happen. Also if players on your team are under-performing and you want to shake things up you can draw one of the extra's into the line-up and sit the under-performer. But it is just a tournament, not the NHL.

Okay. 6 from Canada may be under exagerating, but my point stands. The WJC pace is certainly not at NHL level. Even a Canada/Russia game.

Also, stars on Team Canada don't always equate to NHL success. Goalies are a great example. Jimmy Waite, Jeff Glass, Justin Pogge, etc.

No stars don't always equate but the team has 20 stars on it so even if only half make it that is still 10 guys.

Just for the record these are the number NHL regulars from some of the past teams:

2005- 13 with 3 guys who had more than a cup of coffee
2006- 11 with 4 guys and Bourdon who died
2007- 12 with 2 guys and Bourdon
2008- 12 with 4 guys
2009- 9 with 2 guys

The more than cup of coffee includes guys like Dawes and Boyd.

I really hope this isn't a problem for the future. It wasn't that big of a hit or anything and he's out with a concussion..... This kinda concerns me

We communicate through language. People won't understand what you're getting at unless you use it properly. Don't be offended by it.

Would be suprised, but I'm hoping as I'll be there!

Don't know why you'd rush back for a 7th place match from a head injury.
