How old are you? 12? You probably think M*A*S*H is underrated too.

But none of that matters to me. The quality of the story is what matters. Period. And I did not like it. One should never, ever add too many plot elements like they did. They couldn't handle anything as a result.

I liked that Life (the tv show) was mentioned as underrated. I was pissed when it got cancelled.

Basterds was horrible except the opening sequence.

Basterds has some of the best dialogue in years for a movie, all of course revolving around the antagonist. What a villain.

Land of the Lost is Will Ferrel's best movie. When he dousing himself with dinosaur urine, and the Matt Lauer cameos. It's not my favorite, but its definately underrated.

I'd also like to throw Blue Valentine in the overrated category. Ugh, I can't believe I sat through that whole thing. Did anybody else notice all the red/blue metaphors? So cheezy, like it was written by a kid in junior high school, even though the subject matter is quite adult.
'Stranger Than Fiction' is without doubt Will Farrel's best movie.

Show is almost 15 years old and if it came out today with those guest stars (minus Hedberg), it would still be relevant.

While not a hue fan of his work, Dom Irrera was one of the best guests on the show. His uncomfortable love for Katz was hilarious. I found Dom was a good part of the show because he actually interacted with Dr Katz instead of just doing his stand up.

Malcolm was good.. but why would you consider it under-rated? It won awards and was on the air for 7 seasons. I would define under-rated as cancelled early and no awards despite being a good show or movie.

Mostly because it seems forgotten. But Mastodon also said he didn't enjoy it near the end... I always loved it. Perhaps it just dropped in quality less than the Simpsons did. I think it was the best of the Sunday night shows for a long time.

The second season tried to do too much. It lost all cohesiveness in terms of the story.

I suppose that's true. It was hard to follow the time schedule that it was on. I think if all it was, was Hal screaming about some mistake he had made, it would still be entertaining.

Mad Men is overrated. Ok, I love it but the characters are such #######s it takes away from my enjoyment. A show like Breaking Bad gives characters better motives, more personality, and likeable traits. It makes the show much, much better.

Underrated: Always Sunny. Doesn't get enough credit for being as intelligent of a comedy as you'll see on TV.

I always remember having to try and search for Katz at the most god awful times (after midnight). It was a very good show, and I should check out the full series one of these days, as I am sure I missed the majority of the episodes.

A few more

Overrated: Futurama- Sorry, but it just doesn't match the quality of the first ten years of the Simpsons. And only 3-4 characters on the show are the least bit entertaining (Fry, Bender, The Professor, and Zapp Brannigan). I haven't seen one new episode (although I did watch the entire series beforehand).

Underrated: The Critic- It wasn't exceptional or anything, and Lovitz can get on your nerves, but it should of survived more than just the one season.

Overrated: Anything on CBS- Why do people watch anything on this channel? I keep getting asked if I watch junk like NCIS, CSI, and Criminal Minds, and I don't get why. The same can be said with their entire comedy lineup. Every show on CBS is entirely formulaic and is sold to the older folk who don't have the time, or the concentration to watch serials. I did watch the first couple seasons of Criminal Minds, as Mandy Patinkin created the interest in the show, but I heard it completely fell apart since he left. I have never watched an episode of NCIS, Big Bang Theory, Everybody Loves Raymond, HIMYM, or any of that dreck.

Underrated: Angel- For some reason I always found it to be better than Buffy. Not really sure why, but it was suited more to adults than teenagers, and the production values were better. That and of course there was more Spike...

Underrated: Married With Children- It's amazing how different sitcoms have changed in the last few decades. A good majority of the jokes made on MWC would never be allowed on TV anymore, and it would have been cancelled after the first couple seasons. No longer will the networks allow sexist and other "over the line" jokes on television. And after a 15+ year absence Married with Children has been lost in the shuffle, and very few people rank it with the all-time greats. Personally, I would rank it 1-2 with Seinfeld as the greatest live action sitcom of all time (Arrested Development being #3).

Overrated: The Fresh Prince of Bel Air- While Will Smith is great as always, I don't believe this show has fared well over time. The show just tries to force too many laughs, and it gets less funny after repeat viewings. Also once again after Will (and maybe Carlton), the rest of the characters don't do much for me.

I thought it was only on for like 7 or 8 seasons. I never would of guessed that Fraser has won the most emmys ever(I dont really pay attention to the emmys) and I don't think to many other people would have guessed that either. I didn't really watch it in its original run just happened to catch a repeat on a Saturday morning a couple years ago and got into it. To me it has always taken a backseat to shows like Friends and Sienfeld. I guess I overrated its underratedness.

I basicly hated it.

The main baddie is so cliché it's annoying, the basic premise of "kid escapes harsh reality into fantasyland" was already overused by that time and the fantasy bits were really lacking in what I'd call substance. Forced analogues and trippy visuals, seen too much that already. To underline the bad writing, the "real life" parts had some huge plot holes that really ruined the contrast between fantasy and reality by making the reality totally unbelievable.

Great directing, nice visuals (although not very interesting or original IMO), but terrible, terrible writing.

As an example of much better "fantasy and reality mixed" movie, I liked Peter Jackson's "Heavenly Creatures" a lot.

I'd say Chinatown is mildly overrated actually. A very good movie, but I don't see the "must-see classic" part. A lot better movies out there. I'd also say that for Godfather part II.

Also overrated, as someone already mentioned:
- just about every Oscar winner for best film. Quite a few of them are downright terrible.
- Star Wars episodes I-III (these are even worse than their reputation) and Return of the Jedi, (too convoluted and has walking teddybears).

Underrated:
- Rollerball (1975 version starring James Caan)
- Dawn of the Dead (1978 full-length version)

In general I think the seventies brought out a lot of great, unique movies. The cynical and political atmosphere of that decade brought out a level of social criticism I believe is mostly unmatched, at least in American movies.

Some more underrated movies:
- Catwoman Obviously trashy fun, but it had a rather unique "chick flick" vibe for a superhero movie which I thought was entertaining. Come on, the villains are a cosmetics company
- Aeon Flux (the movie). Again, not a great movie by any means, but I enjoyed the fact that it had a notable amount of sci-fi "WTF" stuff going on that the movie makers didn't forcibly explain to me all the time. I like that.
- Starship Troopers. This is a brilliant parody / social commentary on militarism and military propaganda, among the best ever. The cheesy acting keeps it from being a true classic, but then again it would propably have been impossible to make this movie work without so much cheese. (BTW Starship Troopers III is not bad either, if you don't mind the fact that it's a decisively B-movie trash.)

Oh, and Inglourious Basterds was fantastic.
