To me Lost should be in the curriculum of acting students when they're talking about the subject of "How not to write a TV show"
It hurts even more because I actually loved the show in season 1-4. They should have just focused on Dharma and The Others. Keep story elements to the minimum and polish what you have. Horrible producers and writers.
Yes, those TV writers wouldn't want to write a huge commercial success with one of the most devoted online cult followings in television history. One that inspired a multitude of imitators and knock-offs. . . . What producer or writer would ever want that?!

You know, I wonder if my disappointment with The Wire was due to it being massively overhyped. I probably went into it with some pretty high expectations that the show just couldn't live up to.
Even so, I am not likely to finish watching it anytime soon. The overwhelming defence in this thread shows I am in the minority when it comes to that show.

The show absolutely DOES live up to the hype once you get into it. Everyone here is telling you to give it a chance past the first 6-8 episodes because it initially appears very similar to Law & Order or other run-of-the-mill police procedural shows (except with more swearing and nudity because it's on HBO). I didn't really think it was anything special until maybe episode 9 or 10, but after watching each season multiple times, I'm firmly on the "it's the best show ever made" bandwagon.
Underrated movie:
Royal Tenenbaums - Wes Anderson directs this star studded comedy that is likely my favorite comedy of all time. Any movie by Anderson is a must watch (earlier poster mentioned Fantastic Mr.Fox, a great animated Anderson flick)
Underrated TV: The Shield - 7 seasons of awesome tv!! Gritty, unorthodox cinematography, witty acting. No other show has pulled me in so much. You constantly must think as a viewer what you would do in situations these cops face. A must download ( I mean buy ).
Overrated: Big Brother - so stupid!

Overrated: Entourage. I know it's really popular and I was late to the party, maybe my expectation was too high since everyone said it's so good. I watched the first half dozen or so episodes, it's Sex and The City for men, I don't see the appeal.

I have to agree, Mr Show is fantastic.
Discovered it many moons ago when it followed Tom Green on Saturday nights on the comedy channel. Made me a fan of Bob and David forever.
Also, a big Kids in the Hall fan.
Also, on the Wire, I think either you get it or you don't. I'm currently re-watching the entire series, and am halfway through season 3. I didn't find it hard to get into at all, I found all the characters very watchable, both law enforcement and gangsters. They also were in it for the long haul, introducing major players once and then losing them for the rest of the season until it was their turn for a bigger role in the series.
