Maybe im missing something, but is the OP an American? I realize he is at liberty to take interest in the politics of any given nation, but his complete disdain for this bill is a little peculiar if he is a Canadian living in Canada...
Also, I would think the only Americans with serious concerns over this bill are those that generally live an unlawful lifestyle, with regular interactions with the police. I can't be absolutely certain, but I am fairly sure that I will never have any serious run ins with the law, and wouldnt be concerned with this bill even if I was American.

There are 535 members of Congress, not 100.

I guess you have to read and decide for yourself. Obama is not some guardian of the constitution.....he signed the Patriot Act into law at the drop of a hat.
|
Fair enough. I'm not a fan of the Patriot Act either. I would just say that just because Obama signed the Patriot Act into law doesn't mean that he necessarily supported it. There's a lot more to politics than personal beliefs. In any event, the question of constitutionality is really one for the courts at the end of the day.

Well, to put it more correctly, its just been unrealistic to be a "free-man" for at least 5,000 years, and probably much longer. I don't imagine that the "you're not the boss of me" argument was any more effective against the spears of hunter-gatherer societies than it is against the pepper spray and police batons of the modern Canadian state.

There are 535 members of the House and 100 members in the Senate, which combined make up the entire Congress. Although it is true that the House is called the "congress" it is in fact a bit of a misnomer.

You're not giving anon the respect they deserve in these matters.

Perhaps you should use your education to learn the difference between "past" and "passed".

I assume he meant Senate...
I can't see much reason why both sides of Congress would vote in an overwhelming majority against Obama on the issue if he feels so strongly that he needs to veto the bill. I haven't done much digging into the issue, but I assume most overtuning of vetos have occured when the President was out to lunch on the topic and it was plainly obvious that Congress was right.

You're doing a masters in this subject and yet have an elementary school level of comprehension as to how a bill is passed and no idea as to the number of members of the house? Where are you doing your masters? The Derek Zoolander School For Kids Who Can't Read so Good?

I have an elementary school comprehension of it?
Because I rushed through the finer details?
Come on man, at least try to veil your insults as something that is not personal.
Anyways, I brought this up to have a discussion about something that is potentially very serious. But I see that this is all I can expect to recieve in reply.

Make a point and argue it. Posting a video from anonymous over articles from credible sources is ridiculous to begin with, then to add to it the supposed masters student makes his point by repeating something for 7 lines. You seriously expect us to take you seriously when you do that?

Yes, you clearly do. You didn't miss finer details, you missed basic structures.

How at all did I miss any of the basic structure? Because I didn't mention the vote on the veto? Did I not say that if there's 93% support that I'm very worried about Obama's power in all this.
This has devolved into nothing but a petty personal attack.

I'm having a hard time buying that you're writing anything on this subject. No offense but your approach seems high schoolish.

The only reason the Obama administration would veto this current bill is because they don't want to micromanage the war on terror. Not because they disagree with it.
Anyone who doesn't believe that Obama is as big government as they come is pretty naive. Thankfully he has a brain when it comes to the military and the war on terror.

I don't care. The entire point of this thread was to discuss an actual, serious matter in this world. If mocking someone, because you disagree with the approach, is how you want to deal with it, go right ahead. I won't entertain it or have my integrity questioned any longer.

Just for kicks I looked up what the voting record was for this bill in the House of representatives:
322 Yes
96 No
13 Abstain
I'm not graduate student, so I'm not sure if my math is correct, but that's 93% support right?

Well then attempt to discuss it in an actual serious manner. Or maybe go with the repeat a sentence 7 times approach. Your call.
