There where many times when people did not speak out. I do not want to be part of one of those times.
Ok, well here's a situation I faced last week on the subway.

It's relatively empty and there's a bigger guy with a cane (the blind kind not the walking kind, not sure what those are actually called) and a family of 4 asian women. Apparently one of the children, about 12, tapped him on the back to let him know a seat was available and he responded by ranting about not touching people from behind and a series of other bizarre things. It was quite clear he was mentally lacking. He then threw in the 'go back to where you came from' line (not sure if he heard them speaking another language or was just very familiar with the feel of Asian hands).

So what should I do there? I thought about saying something but what am I going to do, get in the face of a blind mentally challenged guy on the subway? The point is that it's not always as simple as puffing out your chest and playing hero.

Dude. It was 20 C outside. Me and another Asian friend were on the bus. We were the only people on the bus. These kids sat directly behind us and said it so we could hear it. I know what the other term for nippy is. That's not what they were talking about. Trust me.

Edit: Oh wait. you're agreeing with me. Very good then. Carry on.

Yeah it's 999 in Hong Kong too. In Chinese the word "9" sounds very similar to the word "help", so it all works out!

I was in a restaurant in Thunder Bay before and there was a dry-erase board with menu specials on it. One of the items was called "hamburger nip". My friend changed the "H" to an "F" so it said "Furburger nip", and being immature at the time I blurted it out and started laughing.

Some Asian guy heard us laughing and saying the word "nip" and actually came over and started trying to fight me because he thought I was using the word to be racist and was laughing at him.

/cool story bro

That would be old war movies - predating most of the people here. The more recent war movies featured "####s" and "charlie".

EDIT: I guess the other Vietnam era term is censored here - starts with a "g" and ends with a "k" for the curious.

Pretty vile stuff - feel desperately sorry for her child. What hope has he got with a Mom like that?

The clip is NSFW - language and offensive behavior.

In the right tone, I think (don't quote me on this, I don't speak Cantonese as my first Chinese language) it's also a swear.

What you should do is what is what you think you should do.
How you feel about yourself afterwards is your answer.

Was it a Salisbury House (red roof). Their burgers are called nips.

I am against broad "hate speech" laws, as they naturally conflict with total liberty and the feedom of speech.

LOL ....."nip" is what constitutes as racist hate speech and emotional trauma nowadays? Some have had it too good I guess.

Anyways, I wish people in general weren't so easily butt-hurt about what others have to say, ...but we live in a liberal world now, so constant complaining and being the victim is the order of the day.
