^ I'm more of the mindset, if you stand up to nothing you stand for nothing.

Might feel mighty nice to tell them off, but you are not going to change their minds and may actually get yourself into a dangerous situation. Best to back off unless there is no other choice.
I understand what you are saying, but I still think people need to take a stand. Especially in this case where it was someone of similar background as her. Violence isn't the answer no but why not stand up and say something, I'm almost certain she would of had backup if she was attacked.

The fact that most of these came from a younger generation, and not an older generation is kinda sad.

Yeah the lady probably doesn't deserve prison time or to have her kid taken away. But seriously, this bull**** has to stop.
Doesn't "NIPPY" mean it's so cold that your nipples will get hard if you go outside? I don't think I've ever considered that a racist term.

I agree with you. In this case you could see that there was no danger. And it was nice to see someone get in her face.

I don't see what standing up to a drunken loon would achieve in this instance. This lady (for want of a better term) has no boundaries. There is clearly no point in trying to rationalise with her, she would and did escalate her behavior without limit. And she does this while caring for a young child.

As unpalatable as it may sound, I'd have not engaged with her, but tried to get people to ignore her. Only if she became physically aggressive or if her child got in danger would I intervene.

Oh, I would do that, though it is 112 here. Not sure though if that would work if it is underground.

Its about not letting people spew their garbage. You are part of this society nut up and stand up for what is right. By letting this filth go on in front of others especially other minorities it gives an image that it is tolerated. You may sleep at night ok with not speaking out but I wouldn't.

There where many times when people did not speak out. I do not want to be part of one of those times.

For a minute there I thought the Death Eaters have returned and Lord Voldermort is once again gathering his minions to persecute all the muggles.

999 also works, but I think the change has something to do with people unintentionally dialling 999 on their cellphones.

I totally understand where you are coming from - it is not a question about nutting up or standing up for what is right. I would not engage with this woman in that state because to do so would be pointless.l I would do is talk to the woman engaging with her advising her there is no point engaging with the nutjob, who would likely overhear me and direct her venom at me - but I wouldn't engage directly.

That said, I'd support anyone who did if the situation escalated to the point that they required assistance.

[OT]

I am with puckluck on nippy or nip in the air.

a nip is defined as: A sharp pinch, squeeze, or bite.

Used in the context as Teh_Bandwagoner encountered I agree it is racist, but saying there is a nip in the air when it is cold out is not racist.
[/OT]

I have family in the north of England, they are pretty ####ing racist. Goddamn limies.
