Yes. He was born in early October, 1992. He had to wait an extra year to be drafted, but he'll be 20 before the end of 2012, so he can play in the AHL next year (if I understand the CBA correctly).

Not that it matters since he won't ever play in the AHL.

I love Bartschi's game, but let's not call him a saviour until he does it at the NHL level. C'mon, we're starting to sound like Oiler fans with Schremp. Or Whaler fans with Domenichelli, or countless other players

Domnechelli - 148pts in 62 games for Kamloops in '95-'96
Schremp - 145 in 57 games for London in '05-'06
Peter Sarno - 130pts in 68 games for Sarnia in '98-'99
Corey Locke - 150pts in 66 games for Ottawa in '02-'02

The list goes on. To do it in the Dub is definately harder, and he looks VERY promising, but let's not get ahead of ourselves. Junior success is a fairly good predictor of Major League success, but it ain't foolproof...

Rattie scores 4 goals is the headline...

Edit: Sorry, wanted to show there was a TSN article about it, but that Poor Sven got overshadowed

Just saw the edit.

I dont think he really got overshadowed, anytime a player scores 4 goals, hes likely going to get the headline. He also had an assist.

They do mention Bartshi's 4 assists in the article though.

But. Every one of those players and the many others like them were one dimensional creampuffs, what I see in Sven is a player that could care less about being hit to make a play, will hit to make a play, gets dirty in front of the net and has incredible work ethic.

^^Well that explains the point totals then. He already knows what`s gonna happen in the games he`s playing in. Future Sven will be awesome.

That was a fight fest. 200 penalty minutes handed out in that game last night.

I'd trade Bourque for Rattie at this point...

It has already been mentioned that scoring at the pace that Baertschi is currently is a much more impressive accomplishment than what any of the above four players accomplished. But what is more impressive to me is that this is only Baertschi's second year playing NA hockey.
• Schremp played four years before his 145 point season, and he also played for what is arguably the best juniour hockey team in history.
• Domenichelli had his 150 point season as an overager, two years after his draft year, and in his fourth season in the WHL.
• Sarno played in two full seasons in the OHL, as well as in 8 games with the Hamilton Bulldogs the year before his 130 point season.
• Locke is a bit of a different story in that he broke out in his draft year, and then practically disappeared.

I think that it is really important to note that the difference with Baertschi is that unlike every one of the above four players he had not played a single game of high level competitive hockey on North American ice until his first season of juniour last year. Like all players that come over from Europe, there was almost certainly an adjustment period, and this may have factored into why he looks so much better this season than last year.

There's also Pavel Brendl with 73 goals & 134 points in his 1st year in The Dub with the Calgary Hitmen as a 17-18 year old, and all of 22 points in 78 career NHL contests.

66g-102a-168pts

Sidney Crosby's statline in his draft year. What did I prove?

You can score a whole lot of points by passing the puck?

What a cherry picker that guy was. From what I have heard Sven likes playing in the tough areas.

Sure but you have to look at the book on those players. Schremp had skating and rumoured attitude issues. Domenichelli had strength issues which were quite apparent at the NHL level especially in the old NHL. Not as familiar with Sarno and Locke but I think at least one of them had skating or size (or both) concerns.

Bartschi's skating is good. He already didn't too out of place in exhibition/preseason this year. I don't think strength will be a huge concern with him.

There was a reason to believe the players you mentioned might not become NHL stars. I don't see anything holding Baertschi back from being one at this point. If there was he wouldn't have been a potential top 10 pick in a decent draft year. Size/skating/strength concerns would have dropped him lower in the draft. You'll notice none of Domenichelli, Sarno, Locke and Schremp went that high and only Schremp was a 1st rounder at all.
