Found a fantastic hack over the weekend. It always annoys me that I need to go through settings to deactivate my wifi. Probably the only thing I miss from my jailbroken days is an easy way to get to my settings. You can make the process slightly quicker by adding a contact named Wifi Settings and populate the URL field with prefs:root=WIFI. Once you do that you just need to say "wifi settings" into siri and it brings up the contact card (just like if you said a name). The link is clickable and takes you right to the wifi settings page of the settings app.

Also works with:

Blue Tooth - prefs:root=General&path=Bluetooth
Sounds: prefs:root=Sounds
Brightness: prefs:root=Brightness
Airplane Mode: prefs:root=Airplane_Mode
Wallpapers: prefs:root=Wallpaper

You can also do it with apps:
Youtube and put youtube:// for the URL

If I say "Add milk to Grocery list in reminders" she says there is no "Grocery list" list and gives me an on screen list of all my lists to choose from by touch. If i say "add milk to groceries in reminders", she tells me that location based services are not available in canada. Ive tried different variants and have not been able to add an item to a specific list by voice only.
Don't say "in reminders". Try saying "add milk to grocery list". When I add the words "in reminders" it doesn't work for me either. Seems like this may be one of those things that requires you to say something very specifically.

So got the 4s this weekend. I must say the phone feels very tight and well built. The only issue I had was that a couple of times, my screen just went blank, and I had to reset the phone. So the phone itself wasn't frozen, but the display just didn't turn on. I hope this is just some OS issue that will be fixed in the future, and not a lingering problem.

Get Icon Project and you can make icons containing these shortcuts and put them into a folder!

.99 cents. Price seems a little steep if you ask me!

Is Icon Project the only way to create a shortcut for these toggles? I don't care much for a fancy icon, but rather the function. So a simple bookmark on the home page via Safari would suffice, but as soon as you enter the prefs URL, there's no chance to save it as a bookmark icon on the home page.

I'm guessing for that reason there's no other way.

Does it toggle settings, or just create shortcuts to the individual settings pages? I don't understand why anyone would want this, since the Settings icon is already essentially a folder full of settings - if this doesn't do things like toggle wifi on and off, its saving you exactly one tap, and not even one tap if you group the icons into a folder on the home screen...

The only one that I have seen (so far) that toggles automatically is Airplane Mode, but even then it seems to activate it, but not deactivate it. It is basically shortcuts to common settings. It'll save you one tap for most (wifi, VPN), but for things like bluetooth and personal hotspot that are a little deeper, you'll save 2.

I just like the idea of having a couple of common shortcuts available from the home page instead of one or two levels deep in the settings, even if the time savings is negligible. But as you point out, there's not much point if these are buried on page 3 of your apps and within an app folder.

There is very little point. I contend the real power is the ability to trigger the menu with Siri.

Why does the Hotspot link on the Iphone 4s suck so bad when it comes to IDevices

It honestly takes me at least 10 tried to get my Ipad 2 to connect to it. Yet I can connect my laptop flawlessly first try.

Easily makes me want to dump the Iphone and go back to my Android.

Just a quick question for you guys. The 4S has a new sim card- right? So does that mean the sim card cannot be used in an older phone?

I have a 3GS and I am elligible to upgrade next month, but what I really like is that I can take the sim card out of my iPhone and plug it into my tablet to use my data plan on the tablet. It would suck to lose that ability.
