I never said you were defending Sandusky, i said you are defending the participants in the cover up. Are you are not defending McQuerry? I agree with you he did what was required by law, do you agree with what he did morally? If not you should agree that he should be fired by the trustees as well.

Read my posts. I have repeatedly said that nobody lived up to the moral standard I would place upon them.

How does it get a pass? People are punished, people lose jobs, massive fines are levied (either directly or through prohibitions that have the effect of a fine) and where appropriate criminal investigations take place.

I hope jails do the bare minimum when it comes to reporting and placing all these guys in "protective custody" in Jail and everyone of them gets released to General population and hopefully can get a first hand experience in what they didn't stop while working for Pen state

Here's how I would like to see them stop getting a pass on reflection, they should stop getting any tax exempt status or goverment assistance what so ever, they should also be forced to pay their employees, the players, in short they're a business and should be treated accordingly.

I'm still not completely understanding as to why McQuerry is still on staff @ Penn State.
He could have gone to the police as well.
Anyone know the reasoning behind this or is it just speculation at this point?

McQueary was placed on indefinite leave today, so I'd be shocked if he ever coaches there again. As for why it took this long, I have to think it was either because he wasn't a coach back in 2002 or because PSU was concerned that it would look retaliatory since his testimony is what really makes the school look bad.
UPDATE: Legally, Penn State may not be able to fire McQueary. Since he reported Sandusky to Paterno, he might be protected under whistleblower laws. He's been placed on leave until the lawyers can figure out whether they can fire him.

i think Pennsylvania law DOES require suspected child abuse cases to report to law enforcement agencies...
don't have the like, but can find it if people are really interested...from an ESPN article.
JoePa, as much as I like the guy, dropped the ball and was, imo, looking out for the program and not the child...

Before Jerry Sandusky -- before he allegedly used the Penn State football complex to commit sex crimes with young boys and before the university spent more than a decade covering up his sins and before the grand-jury report revealed the appalling details of his abuse and before the campus rioted over legendary coach Joe Paterno losing his job amid it all -- there was Donald Fitzpatrick, the longtime Red Sox clubhouse manager who lured Ogletree and at least a dozen other young, African-American boys into two decades of systemic sexual abuse.
Not only has a serial child molester infiltrated sports before, he did so with one of baseball's most storied franchises. Should the allegations against Sandusky prove true, the two cases are strikingly similar. Both men seduced their victims with the lure of big-time athletics. Both bribed them with equipment and other swag. Both enjoyed watching boys shower. Both fondled their victims and engaged in oral sex. Both committed crimes in plain view and, despite getting caught, were swaddled by a power structure that buried the truth to protect those highest up in the organization. Both used threats and mind games to silence their prey for decades. And both ended up being exposed as predators far too late, after they had laid waste to innocent lives.

Rape is justified when grown men ruin the lives of 10's possibly 100's of children over the course of at least a decade and I am sure it is much longer then that.
Again this morning it sickens me the way all the guests on ESPN talk highly of Paterno. What Paterno did is worse then McQueary and yet he seems to be getting off without anyone caring!

Well at least PSU lost today. I think the celebration that would have happened had they won would have been an insult to the victims. It would have been more about winning one for JoePa instead of winning one for the local members of the community hurt by the organization.

I still can't believe Paterno had the audacity to think he could resign at the end of the season and walk away unscathed. As soon as this came out he should have resigned immediately...to me it shows how clueless he's been in this whole ordeal. The lack of action from Paterno, his so called superiors, and everyone else involved is nearly as unforgivable as the disgusting acts by Sandusky.
Too bad he seems completely incapable of grasping that if he'd shown a shred of competency years ago, he could have prevented a lot of future injustice.

They raised $22,000 for children's services charities at the game. That seems great, but there were over 100,000 people there, you'd think you could get more than 20 cents per person.

Maybe no one at the school was aware there was a fundraiser going on.

You guys will be able to find older articles easier than I can.
What was the reaction when Sandusky 'retired' in 1999. What was the reaction, what were reporters writing, what were the editorials like? What did call-in shows say? Did they investigate it further?
How does the prime assistant coach in the country suddenly retire and never applies for another football job ever?

Apparently Paterno didn't attend Sandusky's retirement dinner in 98, after 30 years working together, he gave a very short thank you speech and then left immediatly after, was in the room for all of 2 minutes.
Odd behaviour from Paterno towards an assistant who was crucial to building that team.

That's what I mean? Weren't reporters there? Didn't think think that was odd behavior? The reporters are just as guilty of the cover up as anyone.
This is when you need British Tabloids.
