You might wanna wait on that Transformer. Rumour has it the Transformer 2 could be out before the end of the year (I've heard possibly October even!), and will be quad core.

I'm not aware of a comprehensive list, but doing some searches for things like "best android tablet apps" will give you some idea. I'm pretty sure phone apps also run on a tablet, but the tablet apps are optimized for a larger screen.

I'm sure it's been mentioned in this thread but I finally grabbed Opera Mini for my Galaxy. Can't believe I waited so long to try it, it is so much better than the stock browser, faster in every way.

It`s too late for you but the app is free if you download it from XDA forums. Forum members who are app developers often upload their apps for other members to use for free.

Moon+ reader - ebook app
Justreader - My favorite RSS reader. Nice scrollable wigdet. Best offline mode that I`ve seen (download entire articles while on wifi to read later).
Photo of the Day - `Live`wallpaper. Actually, it downloads the picture of the day from a choice of sites and sets it as the wallpaper for the day. Doesn`t drain battery like a true live wallpaper (not that I think that`s really an issue) and I don`t have to see the same background over and over.
These apps don`t have the same following as some others so I thought I`d pump them up a bit

Do you know how to save individual wallpapers from that? I have it set to just National Geographic pics, some of them are just awesome! (like today's) Kind of a bummer when you look the next day and its gone again forever, for some much lamer one. I'd like to be able to hold onto some of those.

Any good contenders for a TSN type app like the iPhone has? The closest I have found is Score, but I preferred how TSN had more hockey-centric features.

Does anyone find that Opera mini drops connections alot? Sometimes I'll click on a link, it will try to resolve it and then it just cancels the connection attempt.

I didn't even realize, I only remember seeing the one, but there are in fact an Opera Mini and an Opera Mobile in the market. So I did some searching and found this http://skattertech.com/2011/08/opera...he-difference/
Quote:
When someone traditionally visits a webpage, their browser generally requests information directly from the respective server. Interestingly enough, things work differently when using Opera Mini. This app actually sends the wanted website to Opera’s servers for some heavy-duty compression. This means a faster web browsing experience on slow networks and bandwidth savings for those pay by the megabyte. On the other hand, Opera Mobile is a full-blown browser. This app is perfect for those with fast networks speeds and powerful hardware. With a rendering engine running on your device, Opera Mobile offers a web browsing experience comparable to a desktop computer.
|
I am currently using Opera Mini which is probably why I noticed such a big performance increase over the stock browser, Opera Mobile would probably be a little closer to the stock browser. I'll have to give Opera Mobile a try but where I am the reception quality is pretty spotty so I think Mini is still the best bet for me.
I suppose if you have an issue with your data going through Opera's servers you won't want to use Mini. Opera's desktop browser has this functionality as well if you on the Turbo feature.

I wouldn't say a lot but yes, sometimes clicking a link appears to just refresh the page I am currently on, not the one I want to go to. Maybe give Opera Mobile a try as it may have something to do with the data going through Opera's servers (see above).

Just to clarify.....I'm using Opera Mini. It is a VAST improvement over the stock browser (froyo) and has yet to fail at any task that I throw at it as a "normal" user.
As for the connection dropping, I haven't noticed any to date. I have been flat out impressed with Opera Mini's speed and functionality and would rate it a 10/10 after a weeks use.

For those who switched from BB and miss the LED notifications, NoLED is a semi-decent replacement. Check it out.

Thanks for the tip about Opera Mini. This rocks.
I've been a longtime loyal Opera user on the desktop for over 6 years but have been using Dolphin on Android devices. Switching to Opera mini now.
