From what I have heard, the bridges over the river and the CP tracks are to be twinned. Currently they can handle 4 lanes (both directions) with virtually no shoulders, and I think that the plan is to have 3 plus shoulders on each side. You can actually see that there is a nice little plateau in the gap between the future CP and river bridges to the West of the existing road, which I believe was done back when the existing bridges were done.

There's a plan to re-do those bridges already? The big ones over the river from/to 16th Avenue? Good lord...

The existing bridges will still be there for the northbound lanes, but they are adding new ones for the southbound lanes eventually. I think that it was always in the plans for when traffic volumes warranted it.

The widening of the existing bridge is for the start of the ramp off to Nose Hill Drive.
The twinned bridge over the CP Rail tracks is to accomodate the ramp distance of traffic entering Stoney southbound. That's why that bridge is being done now, instead of going ahead when the bridge over the river is going ahead.
The current bridge over the river has always been intended to be twinned eventually. It's two lanes each way with virtually no shoulders. This will become three lanes northbound with shoulders when the bridge is twinned. The earthwork for the twinned bridges was done with the initial bridge. I suspect the the twinned river bridge will be built once Stoney Trail continues further south than 16th Ave.

Hard to believe they aren't doing the river bridge at the same time, being that close to the CPR bridge. Would be far more economical and quicker to get it done at the same time I would think.

It might save a little bit of money it you included it now as one project, but the government might not have all the money for that now. It wouldn't be very much cheaper anyway.
It should have a minimal impact on existing traffic when it actually goes ahead, so that shouldn't be a big problem.

The second bow river bridge will be quite expensive compared to anything else on the project, so there's a good reason they won't be doing it now.

Apparently, the connection to Stoney at 96th Ave in the NE was opened as of 5 am this morning.

Police officers observe a moment of silence as their favorite spot on Stoney Trail to park and catch speeders is now gone.

True, but they'll always have Barlow Trail at 114th Avenue, where the road inexplicably goes from 100 to 60 for one block then up to 70.

I heard on QR this morning that they've completed the design for widening deerfoot over glenmore. Anyone have a link to the drawing? They also said there's a chance it gets underway next spring. Hells yeah.

That's awesome.
Though part of me wishes for one summer where there's no construction on deerfoot.

I'm not wishing for that. Another year passing with no construction on Deerfoot means waiting another year for problem spots to be fixed. There's still plenty of spots that could use upgrades before they take a break. (Glenmore and Anderson/Bow Bottom really stick out to me as two places that desperately need stuff done)

I also don't see the Glenmore construction as having a huge impact on traffic; certainly not as bad as the Calf Robe project. I went to their open house ~2 years ago, and pretty much what they are doing is building another bridge beside the current one. The provincial trasportation dude was on the hot seat, and I was impressed with a lot of his answers to questions. The big question- why not do Anderson/Bow Bottom (ABB) first?
There were a few reasons; a lot had to do with getting Glenmore ready to handle more traffic from the 3/4 ring road. It also had to do with cost- ABB is going to cost a LOT more to fix. He didn't like my answer to ABB- no access from Southland onto SB Deerfoot.

My face is a bum!

By that map am I understanding correctly that the joke which is Northbound Deerfoot to Westbound Glenmore will be left as is?
That must be impressive for people from out of town going through the interchange joining the cities busiest roads as their GPS tells them "Exit right. In 100 m, turn through car dealership parking lot. In 200m yield for people avoiding pot holes and weaving due to lack of road markings. 50m past put-put course merge left"

^^ Yes HR. That is correct. I specifically asked about that, and he said they can't do the exit from NB Deerfoot onto WB Glenmore until the gravel/concrete plant goes away. (Lafarge I think.)
