What I don't like about the guide is when I had my HDPVR box I could hit guide twice and it would give me a single channel's upcoming shows. Can this be done with Gateway? I also would like to know if I can change the display on the portal to the channel instead of the time. The time is also a minute behind schedule and I can't see how to change it. I have channels 210-212, but they show up as empty lines in my guide.
My biggest complaint is it won't show me what station (FOX, CBS, etc.) each channel is on the guide. It only shows the number.
Hopefully I can figure these things out, as the multi-room PVR is awesome. The signal is good and it's just a few tweaks to make it perfect.

You will get an update that will fix most of those issues.

Anyone else have to power cycle their gateway to get Food HD (232) to show up? It simply wasn't there. Tried power cycling the portal, nothing. Then power cycled the gateway and it showed is as channel 232 TBA in the guide, but at least it showed up. Shouldn't have to reboot your gateway to get a new channel to show up.

Can you add an external hard drive to the gateway system to increase the capacity?

Yup. I have an external drive and case I picked up from Memory Express that I put together and hooked up to the Gateway and it formatted and was up and running in no time without issue.

I've pinpointed it to the fan in the PVR causing annoying noise. ANyone else have this issue? (Maybe just needs a tech to look at?)

is anyone using a harmony remote with their new gateway/portals? i will probably end up getting one of the RF harmonies, but just wondering if anyone is using one at the moment. or...is the shaw remote adequate? are there arris codes already?
my home theatre setup is starting to get complicated for others to operate and i know that the harmony ones have a very high WAF (wife approval factor).
thanks for any thoughts!

ATM I am using the Shaw remote to control the TV (power), Audio component (power and volume), and the portal. It seems to work well. I run into problems when I need to do something with DLNA (wireless through the TV) or the PS3 (Bluetooth). I still need 3 remotes.

Am I able to use my old Shaw boxes still while I have gateway? I know I won't have access to the PVR anywhere and what not but can I still get cable to work on the old boxes within my house?

I don't know if they are still doing this but they used to have a deal where you could trade in your old boxes and get a free portal.

When they installed the system in my place we had 2 tv's and were given both portals for free. I was able to keep my 2 other boxes which i am just going to give to my parents.

Has anyone had any issues getting a port to forward with this SMC router/modem?
I've used this guide:
http://portforward.com/english/route...te_Desktop.htm
and all port scanners still can't see port 3389 as open.
I've done this countless times with my old linksys router without difficulty so I'm wondering if there's another step I'm missing.

I know you can trade in hdpvr for new portals but I have a digital tuner as well as an old hd box that is worth like 50 bucks max but would work well to hook up my slingbox to in a spare bedroom or for my bar tv

And this would be why I unpacked mine that was shipped, saw the router built in and am now returning it. I don't want a second router. Not sure why it can't just be a modem. I'll stick with Broadband 25.

Call shaw and have them put it into bridge mode and then use your regular router. Problem solved everyone is happy

Well they just hooked up my TV's and we got 2 portals without having to trade anything in or paying extra so maybe they will hook you up as well?

Can people not read? I all ready have 2 portals and will be getting 2 more from trading in PVRs. My question is can you hook old shaw equipment up still and have it work in your home. I would rather only have 4 portals and then still use either coax or one of my dated hardware boxes that are now useless to sell for some obsolete purpose like a dedicated slingbox portal so that I can always use it and don't have to worry about it interrupting someones Tv viewing. Or for my bar tv that will be used 10 times a year and doesn't need a dedicated portal since my projector is right beside it.

Yeah, I contacted them already via chat and they said they could do that. Didn't know that. I will do that later tonight I guess.

My understanding is that you can have both types of equipment activated in your home. I specifically asked the CSR this question and the answer was affirmative. I was going to keep my HDPVRs, then I decided to trade them in.
