You and I both know that this is why all of the parties have media relations teams...they make a phone call and basically hand over the story.

The Globe & Mail covered 24 hours before the Sun did.

No disrespect, but I don't think you are thinking clearly on this. There are other groups (like the University or Telav) who are far more likely to want this story to get out.

Also the WRP had just launched a TV ad campaign, why would we shoot ourselves in the foot and have attention drawn away from that costly project?

That article (which I hadn't seen until now) is a lot more balanced than what the Sun printed this morning. The reality is that there is no issue here though; I'm not even sure that Carter has to declare this personally for the disclosure they reference in the article?

Its just such a non-issue.

I agree, the media chose to make an issue of it. For whatever reason.

Incidentally, I also found a Herald one that mentioned it on Oct 2nd.

I think he does have to declare with the Ethics Commissioner, but as I understand it only the MLA's reports become available publicly.

If I were Wildrose I'd want attention diverted away from those ads. Just brutal.

I didn't care for them at first, but they've sort of grown on me. They end on a very upbeat and welcoming note.

If they want to brand themselves as government-in-waiting they should stay away from attack ads. You really want people voting for the party, not against another.

If the ending wasn't attached to the beginning, I would totally agree with you. More than once I have changed a channel or come back into the room and only watched the end of the commercial and thought "Hey that was a decent commercial", and then remember what the beginning was.

Yup, completely brutal. I've said before that as a party with no real track-record, I'm basing my evaluation of them completely on how they run an election campaign (or pre-election campaign). And that commercial is everything I hate in politics and nothing I admire.

Add me to the list of attack ads turning me away from whatever party that uses it.

Tell me how you can improve the province.

Don't tell me how the previous party F*** upped.

But they seem to work.

I think that the CPC ads against the Liberals worked because they had a distinct attacking message though. I watched the Wildrose ads and there is something about them that is not quite right....like they are attack ads, but its a muted attack for some reason?

I don't agree with either party thats used them here, so its not the actual stance. Its just that the CPC ads were hard hitting and really attacking. The Wildrose ads just seem pretty lame and amateurish as far as actual attack ads go. The part when Danielle Smith talks at the end its almost like she's smirking.

I just don't see these as being as effective as the CPC ads where they have clips of Ignatieff or Dion saying things that they would later regret.

I have managed to avoid the ads - not deliberately, just haven't actually seen one - but if the ads discuss the mistakes the government has made, that is not an attack ad. The job of the opposition parties is to take the government to task, and you can't well do that if the government gets to quietly sweep its mistakes under the carpet.

The NDP used lame attack ads here in Manitoba and they won the largest majority yet over the CPC.

I know there are different variations, but for some stupid reason the voter is duped by them.

The new cabinet is now public: http://www.calgaryherald.com/faces+a...929/story.html

I was really hoping she'd put Liepert out to pasture - the guy must have incriminating photos of someone to keep getting all these high-profile positions.

Gary Mar named new trade representative to Asia

http://www.calgaryherald.com/Gary+na...447/story.html

This is one smart political move. You get rid of one of your biggest opponents whom you defeated by only 1600 votes by sending him thousands of miles away with a cushy government job. Thus, this weakens his political tide with the province in case you get into trouble with other members of the PC.

Did you just randomly link a totally unrelated article on purpose, or do you somehow think that a 4 year old web posting on post-processing is relevant to the conversation?
