It was still there last summer, I couldn't get my wife and daughters out of there. I just told them to meet me on the deck at Joey's, great decision.

I was in Maine recently and saw a fairly sizable store dedicated to only selling Christmas ornaments. How that store can survive with such a specific, time-sensitive concept, I'll never know. Maybe they were like HR Block and made all their money in 2 months and just cruised the rest of the year...

I know this is about Calgary but to my fellow saskatoonians how is Confederation Mall still open? I mean even when Walmart was open that place was a ghost town. Canadian tire is inaccessible from the mall so really the only anchors they have are sport mart and petland.

And that Calender kiosk we all see in every mall every year at Christmas time. Does anyone buy a Calender knowing come Jan 15 they are all going to be marked down to 1/2 price? While I'm on the topice theres also the Hickory Farms kiosk, don't we all love unrefridgerated meat and cracker dips?

In the same vein to my fellow Winnipegers, that mall in Fort Garry with the Safeway and Zellers. I went to high school around there, and we would all go at lunch to buy pizza buns from the Safeway. I think we were half of the business.

How do any of those mall kiosks selling random cell phone covers, belt buckles, cheap jewellery, or crappy t-shirts stay alive?

I know, it's so easy to get a free new case for your phone.

I don't really get it either...I worked there, so I know there's nothing special going on.
My sisters live in Texas, and every time they come home, the first stop is BP's.
Makes me scratch my head.

I echo whoever said Sears.
I was in the one in Deerfoot Mall a couple months back - what a depressing store. I went to their 'electronics' section, looking for a DVD, yeah, they don't sell too many of those. Safeway has a better selection of DVDs.
It's like stepping out of a time machine in communist Russia.
Surprised the employees haven't slit their wrists.

Hell, that market should have been dead long ago, but it's the food court that's keeping it semi-alive.

The pearl market place. WTF
Never seen a single person shopping there.
Island foods too...those damn offices upstairs are keeping island foods afloat.

I guess I am a few pages too late for the shoe repair discussion but I am surprised a bit. Wasn't there a thread a while back where a bunch of you were bragging about how expensive your shoes are? Don't you high-rollers have those things repaired when the heels or the soles wear out? In my way of thinking, if I spend many hundreds of dollars on a pair of shoes I want them for a while and paying to have them re-soled is cheaper than buying a new pair.
Haven't any of you ever gone to a shoe repair to have your hockey gloves re-palmed, or have a leather bag, briefcase repaired? Strange.

Wow, things have changed since I left Calgary at the end of July apparently.
I hadn't heard any mention of it in close to two years.

The Brick. How is that scam of a place still open? I don't know of a single person who has had a good experience there.
